It was built as a royal summer residence and consists of a square fortified enclosure and a four-storey circular tower. The fort is now home to permanent exhibition space devoted to Wilfred Thesiger, an information centre for visitors and a temporary exhibition centre.

Hili Archaeological Park is among the UNESCO heritage sites in the UAE. It is a historical site that showcases monuments dating back to the Bronze Age, specifically from 2500 BCE to 2000 BCE. The park features the impressive Hili Grand Tomb, adorned with ancient engravings of human and animal figures, alongside various other tombs and remnants of settlements. It serves as both a public garden and an archaeological site, offering lush greenery, fountains, and a children's play area for families. Visitors can explore the rich history of the region while enjoying a relaxing day outdoors. The park is open daily from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
