Established in 1978, The City School has successfully maintained the quality of education without losing its values and traditions.
The school has evolved and progressed with time. It aims to provide every opportunity for students to discover and work on their strengths. The City School International Dubai encourages academic achievements, but it also understands that each student has different learning needs.

The school follows the UK National Curriculum with EYFS and IGCSE programme in a co-education setup. The City School International Dubai was established in 2006 in Nad Al Hamar. It offers classes from FS1 until Year 12 for students aged 3 to 19.

Students benefit from Early Years Education guidance to Cambridge International Examinations. Enrichment programmes support academic progress to make students responsible, innovative and independent.

The City School International has multiple campuses in the UAE, Philippines, Malaysia, KSA, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The next target is to establish other schools across GCC countries, South East Asia and Africa. It is a Pakistan-based organisation, but students belong to the UAE and other Asian countries. Currently, there are 650 students.

Ras Al Khor is next to Nad Al Hamar and is best known for Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary. Al Rashidiya is a popular residential community. Al Warqaa is one of the rapidly developing areas in the city and is situated towards the east.

The design of the two-storey school campus is similar to villas in the vicinity. Expansive play areas surround the school campus where students can take part in basketball and other similar sports. There is a swimming pool as well. The library is well-stocked with books for students of all ages.

Outstanding teaching and various facilities make The City School International Nad Al Hamar Dubai one of the best schools in the emirate. The school received a “Good” rating from the KHDA after being rated “Acceptable” for several years.

The City School International Nad Al Hamar provides students with all the required skills to face future challenges confidently. It is an approved centre for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and London University.

The City School International Curriculum

TCSI Dubai follows a modified National Curriculum for England, keeping in mind the requirements laid down by the UAE Ministry of Education. It prepares students for IGCSE examinations.

Foundation Stage focuses on literacy, personal and social development, communication and language and understanding of the world. Main subjects taught during this level include Islamic Studies, Arabic, Expressive Arts & Design and Mathematical Development. Children’s progress and attainment are closely monitored at this stage. It encourages Foundation Stage students to try new things, initiate ideas, and communicate confidently. They are taught to be respectful of their culture and beliefs. Tolerance is developed at this early stage.

Core subjects taught during Year 1 and 2 include English, Science, Arabic, Islamic Education and Mathematics. Other subjects include Computing, Social Studies, History, Geography, Music, PE, Library, Art and Moral Studies for Non-Muslims.

Year 3 to 6 students study English, Mathematics, Arabic, Islamic Education and Science as core subjects. Other primary subjects at this level are Art, Computing and Robotics, Music, Geography, Social Studies, Moral Studies for Non-Muslim students and Foreign Languages (Urdu and French).

Year 7 and Year 8 come under the secondary section. Core subjects in these classes are Mathematics, English, Islamic Education, Arabic and Science. Students also learn other subjects such as History, Social Studies, Physical Education, Computing and Robotics, Art and Moral Studies (for Non-Muslim students). They also have to study foreign languages such as French and Urdu.

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is followed from Year 9 to Year 11. Students can opt for Science, Commerce or Humanities stream. Compulsory subjects at this level are English, Mathematics, Islamic Education, ICT, Environmental Management/Travel and Tourism, Arabic, Social Studies and Moral Education. Elective subjects include Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Accounting, Sociology, Business Studies and Development Studies.

KHDA inspected The City School International Dubai from 11th to 13th November 2019 and rated it “Good.”

As per the detailed The City School International Dubai KHDA rating and report, students’ attainment in most subjects is more than expected. Secondary students achieve high-quality results in external tests in Mathematics, Science and English. Secondary section students’ progress has improved in Arabic as an additional language. Students show good learning skills in all phases.

Most students show exemplary behaviour, especially in the secondary phase. They also have high-quality interpersonal skills. Attendance is variable and has declined over the term compared to the previous inspection. Students show a strong understanding of Islamic values, Emirati culture and social responsibility.

Teachers develop strategies for supporting students’ learning. They use a range of assessments to provide more targeted support. Teachers can deliver a range of high-quality teaching approaches. The strongest examples are observed in English, Science and Mathematics in the secondary phase.

The school curriculum is evaluated regularly, and its transition from FS to Primary level has improved. It has been enriched through practical and science-based activities and additional modern foreign languages in the secondary phase.

The school meets the expectations of the Dubai government in terms of health, safety, child protection, care and support. Although the school does not have a school counsellor, students get good care and support.

Teachers use baseline tests to identify students of determination. The City School has a recently developed policy for gifted and talented students.
The new principal has implemented a few improvement measures. The teamwork is enhanced, and leadership has improved across the school. Other positive initiatives are in the developmental phase.

  • Governors must ensure the school leaders have sufficient time to carry out their departmental responsibilities and improve students’ outcomes.

Academic Calendar for The City School International

The City School International’s academic calendar is split into three terms. The academic session starts in August and ends in July.

  • The first term starts in the last week of August and ends in the second week of December, followed by a 3-week winter break.
  • The second term starts in the first week of January and ends in the last week of March, followed by a 2-week spring break.
  • The third term starts in the second week of April and ends in the first week of July, followed by a 2-month summer break.

Admission and Fees

How to Apply to The City School International?

Parents considering The City School International for their children can register their child online. They also need to submit a non-refundable registration fee of AED 500 to the accounts office.

Candidates appear for an assessment after the application approval. The concerned department will email or send an SMS mentioning the date and time of the evaluation. A detailed overview of City School International admission policy is available on the website.

No entrance test is required for admission to FS level, but an age-related assessment is mandatory. Year 1 to Year 10 admission is finalised after compulsory basic English, science, and mathematics assessment. For Year 7 and above, the placement of students depends on an interview with a member of senior management. Admission also involves recommendations and the child’s previous school report.

Documents required to be submitted along with the application form are:

  • Copy of residence visa and valid passport of both student and parents
  • Copy of Emirates ID card of both parents and student
  • Original Emirates ID cards of both student and parents (To be scanned in front of an official)
  • Five recent photographs of the student
  • Copy of student’s birth certificate
  • Copy of student’s immunisation card
  • Copy of original mark sheet of the last examination passed
  • Previous report card (if any)
  • Character Certificate from the previous school (for Year 5 onwards)
  • Original transfer letter for other Emirates transfer (attested by the educational authority)
  • For overseas students (except for the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Europe), the original school leaving certificate should be attested by
    • The Ministry of Education of the country
    • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of migrating country
    • UAE Embassy in the migrating country
    • Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dubai

TCSI gives siblings of already enrolled students priority. A non-refundable deposit of AED 500 has to be submitted to place a candidate’s name on the waiting list. Parents can also book a school tour at their convenience.

Parents can pay fees via post-dated cheques in favour of the school. The fee has to be paid on the following dates:

  • 1st instalment before 23rd August through current dated cheque, cash, debit card or bank transfer
  • 2nd instalment via a post-dated cheque on 1st October
  • 3rd instalment via a post-dated cheque on 1st December
  • 4th instalment via a post-dated cheque on 1st February
  • 5th instalment via a post-dated cheque on 1st April
  • Fee for the entire team is charged if a student attends school for more than a month.

Already enrolled students have to pay a re-registration fee of AED 1,000 to confirm their seats for the next academic year. This payment is non-refundable but is adjusted in the first payment. The first-term fee is refunded upon a student’s withdrawal before the start of the academic year.

Students can buy snacks from the school canteen or bring packed lunches from home.

School Transportation at The City School International

The school offers bus services for students. It has outsourced the service to Maverick Rental, an independent school transport service provider established in 2009. Safety standards are strictly maintained and all guidelines laid down by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) are followed. The school transportation service only hires experienced professionals with a proven track record.

Regular field trips arranged at The City School International provide contextual and experiential learning. They plan overseas and overnight local trips throughout the academic year. Trips to religious and cultural sites make students more aware of the Islamic values and UAE culture.

After-school Care at The City School International

The school does not offer after-school care or activities beyond the regular class dispersal time, which is 02:20 pm.

A full-time nurse manages a well-equipped medical clinic at the school campus. A visiting doctor also tends to the students once a week.
