Known as one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in UAE, Ras Al Khaimah Academy enjoys an honourable position in the educational sector. The school first opened in 1975 as RAK English Speaking School with just 20 children belonging to the expatriate families living in the emirate.

Phases | Grades Covered |
---|---|
Early Childhood Education | Pre-KG to KG 2 |
Lower Primary | Grade 1 to Grade 3 |
Upper Primary | Grade 4 to Grade 5 |
RAK Academy IPK curriculum is based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme IB PYP. This programme assists the school in the well-rounded development of students from nursery until Grade 6. The development of the child takes place through maturing of physical, emotional, and cultural needs.
The primary years involve six key trans disciplinary learning themes including:
English and Arabic Language | Personal, Social and Physical Education |
Social Studies | Mathematics |
Arts | Science |
These six trans disciplinary themes help teachers form an inquiry-based programme. Important ideas are discussed with students in a classroom setting to observe their comprehension of the subjects.
Moving on, a major part of the curriculum is assessment and reporting. The school provides training to teachers to change their old teaching strategies and adopt new ones for quality education. However, assessment is crucial to identify the level of understanding in students.
Results of these assessments are shared with parents via newsletters, parent-teacher conferences, the sharing and displaying of student’s learning, student-led conferences and parent information sessions to give them a clear picture of where their child stands academically.
At the end of each term, a written report of each student’s academic and non-academic performance is provided to parents. The report highlights what had been taught by the teachers and how much the student understood it over time.
Recently, all RAKA schools including RAK International Primary School were rated ‘Good’ by the British School Overseas. According to the agency, Ras Al Khaimah Academy Khuzam faced some setbacks at the start of their operation which they were quick to recover from with the help of the governing body, section heads and schools efforts.
Going into detail of the rating and how the school came about achieving it. BSO reports underline the participation from RAK IPK Academy’s senior leadership and management team in understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the school. The governing body with the help from sections heads and class teachers modified the curriculum to suit the needs of students.
Apart from this student’s health and safety have been brought under the limelight. RAK Academy IPK School provides pastoral care, medical facility and health-related sessions to take care of the mental and physical health of students. As a result of this effort, children have shown remarkable improvement in their academic and non-academic performances. Some have even shown outstanding performance with little assistance.
Other than this, students have positive reviews regarding extra-curricular and campus facilities. During their tenure at the school, students benefit from both provisions to pursue their interest and passion.
Lastly, BSO took into consideration the opinion of parents who are recognised as one of the most important stakeholders of Ras Al Khaimah Academy Schools. RAK Academy IPK reviews as given by parents can be categorised as laudable.
