Le Petit Poucet Curriculum

Le Petit Poucet Nursery Dubai follows the French National Curriculum and the British Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Bilingual classes are offered to students, i.e. English and French. Children typically learn in one language while being introduced to a second language through fun activities. The core curriculum is taught in one language.

The Early Years Foundation Stage sets standards for children's learning, development and care from birth to 5 years. Le Petit Poucet Nursery uses the EYFS framework with its seven areas of learning and development to share the educational programme. All areas are interconnected but are divided into prime and specific areas.

Prime Areas for learning and development include:

  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

These areas reflect key skills and capacities for developing and preparing for school. They also ignite children’s curiosity, forming relationships and enthusiasm for learning and become the basis of learning.

Specific areas of learning and development are:

  • Mathematics
  • Expressive Arts and Design
  • Literacy
  • Understanding the World

Each area of the curriculum is delivered after effective planning and purposeful plays. Activities are a mix of adult-led and child-led. As children grow older, the focus shifts more to activities led by adults to prepare them for formal learning and Year 1.
