The KHDA inspects private schools in Dubai and then provides a detailed report. All private schools are then rated on six parameters ranging from ‘Outstanding’ to ‘Very Weak.’
KHDA inspected Al Ittihad School from 10th to 13th February 2020 and rated it as “Good.”
According to the report, students show good achievement in Islamic education. Kindergarten children show good achievement in three key subjects. Science and UAE Social Studies attainment is good at all levels and students show good learning skills overall. However, their investigation, critical thinking, collaboration and research skills are underdeveloped.
Overall, students show positive and responsible learning attitudes. The understanding of Islamic values and Emirati culture is one of the strengths of the school. Students’ sense of community, social responsibility and environmental awareness is strong. But, they get insufficient opportunities to initiate and participate in environmental projects.
Teaching quality is good across all phases but some lessons are very good or better. KG teachers use questioning to promote independent thinking and to ascertain students’ level of understanding. Learning assessment is good in the school. Assessment information enables teachers to plan lessons matching the learning needs of students.
The curriculum is effective and emphasises developing students’ knowledge, skills and understanding. It is based on the Californian Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The curriculum is linked strongly to the UAE culture and meets MoE requirements. It is modified to fit the learning needs of individual students and groups.
Health and safety provisions are very good overall. School transport and supervision within the school is effective. High school students get appropriate guidance for their post-secondary phase. The school should work on managing lessons punctuality.
The Director General and other leaders have come up with a school vision. They work strategically with an emphasis on improving the academic achievement of students. Inclusion practices are improved since the last inspection. The school gets support from parents and governors.
