Founded in 1990, Our Own English School was renamed as GEMS United Indian School following a restructuring and building of a new, state-of-the-art campus in 2015. GUIS is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) New Delhi and delivers the curriculum of the same from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. UIS delivers the CBSE curriculum infused with the Ministry of Education (MoE) subjects that offer 21st-century learning while promoting the culture and heritage of the UAE. Why GEMS United Indian School?

GEMS United Indian School (GUIS) is an Indian curriculum school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). GUIS delivers the CBSE curriculum from kindergarten to Grade 12.

The CBSE curriculum is infused with the subjects made mandatory by the Ministry of Education (MoE) throughout all the grade levels. Education at GUIS is not limited to solely reading and writing, but also consists of learning, unlearning, innovating and relearning.

GEMS UIS is an all-through school that delivers the CBSE curriculum from kindergarten to Grade 12.

GEMS United Indian School Curriculum

GEMS UIS imparts education with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum designed and developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi.

The primary language of instruction is English. The curriculum takes a project-based problem-solving approach that helps students think, collaborate and communicate. Arabic language, Islamic studies and UAE social studies are also included within the syllabus.

EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM

For students of kindergarten 1 and 2, the curriculum focuses on developing their cognitive and motor skills. Core subjects taught at this level include:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Environmental Studies

Additional subjects include music, art and craft, physical education (P.E) and sports. students also participate in games, story-sessions, field trips, special weeks, assemblies and events for fun.

PRIMARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM

For Grades 1 to 5, the curriculum focuses on the development of skills in language, ICT, numeracy, financial literacy, cultural or civic literacy and scientific literacy. Subjects at this level include:

MIDDLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM

For grades 6 to 8, the curriculum integrates Science and Technology. Subjects taught at this level are:

SECONDARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM

The syllabus focuses on strengthening Grade 9 and 10 students’ intellectual, aesthetic, physical and cultural development. Grade 10 students take the CBSE Board Examinations at the end of the year. Subjects taught at this level are:

SENIOR SECONDARY CURRICULUM

ADEK Rating

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) is a government entity that is responsible for licensing all private education institutes and monitoring their commitment to providing high-quality service in accordance with regulations. Through the Irtiqaa Programme, they carry out periodic evaluations of all schools and are based on six basic criteria as listed below:

Admission and Fees

How to Apply to GEMS United Indian School?

To enrol your child at GEMS UIS, complete the following admission process:

  • Step 1: To start the registration process, complete the online form. Once the necessary information has been filled out, the school’s enrolment team will reach out to relay the rest of the process specifications.
  • Step 2: Bring the following documents to the school so as to complete the registration process:
  • 1 copy of the child’s passport and Emirates ID card
  • 1 copy of the parent’s passport and Emirates ID card
  • 1 copy of the child’s birth certificate (in English/Arabic)
  • 3 recent passport size photographs of the child (with a white background)
  • Two years’ of school reports, including any learning support documents pertaining to your child’s educational needs. (nursery reports for Early Years registration, if available).
  • Copy of Health Form along with a copy of Vaccination Record for KG1 and above.
  • Step 3: The school will initiate contact to schedule an interview and an assessment/entrance examination.
  • Step 4: Upon successful completion of the interview and assessment, the school will contact the parent if the child has secured a place.

Students seeking admission for Grades 2 and up must provide a Transfer Certificate (T.C). If an applicant wants to transfer mid-academic year, then the following documentation must be provided:

  • Transfers from within Abu Dhabi: Submit records of tests undertaken by the student in their current academic school (for the same academic year) as well as an eSIS transfer.
  • Transfers from other Emirates: Submit mark sheets of assessments from the current school (for the same academic year). Mark sheets must include the current school’s name and the current grade and must be attested by the current school and the Ministry of Education of the Emirate in which the school is located.
  • Transfers from India/other Gulf Countries: Students must submit the following additional documents:
  • The mark list of assessments done so far at the student’s current school during the current academic year,
  • Transfer Certificate/School Leaving Certificate attested by the Education Officer of the Zone/District/Area, from where the Transfer Certificate/School Leaving Certificate has been obtained,
  • Attestation of the Transfer Certificate must also be carried out at the Embassy of UAE in India and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in UAE,
  • The Transfer Certificate has to be duly attested and the original needs to be submitted for Grade 2 and above (only at the time of enrolment)
  • The seal and signature of the Education Officer have to be verified by the Indian Consulate in Abu Dhabi and the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

For new GEMS United Indian School admissions, a registration fee is due upon acceptance of the offer letter.

Scholarships at GEMS United Indian School

GEMS female students have the opportunity to apply for the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Award for Excellence. The award, under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan (UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology), is presented to girls attending GEMS schools across the Middle East.

This scholarship is offered to female students that have proven themselves as global citizens. Students have to exhibit outstanding leadership qualities as well as exceptional academic achievements to be eligible for the award.

Transportation at GEMS United Indian School

GEMS UIS has outsourced its transportation service to Bright Bus Transport (BBT). It offers a safe and secure service for the students while adhering to the travel guidelines and regulations at all times.
