The GEMS Modern Academy uses the following curriculum:
Kindergarten consists of Pre-KG to KG 2. The curriculum is carefully designed considering the requirements of modern era. To cater to the needs of children, the curriculum targets seven key areas of learning which are similar to EYFS framework. Teaching plans are based on Reggio Emilia Pedagogy and Montessori principles of children’ development and learning.
Primary school curriculum involves more formal learning activities than Kindergarten. It focuses unique personality, intelligence and other individualistic traits of students by nurturing social, moral, physical, imaginative, aesthetic, cognitive and emotional skills. The core subjects in primary school include science, mathematics, social studies, English and other languages including Hindi and French.
Students in Grade 1 and Grade 2 learn from the environment whereas, kids in Grade 3 and onwards are taught using concept-based approach. The PYP framework follows six themes which are:
GEMS Modern Academy Nad Al Sheba follows a holistic curriculum focusing on developing academic and interpersonal skills. Middle school students participate in a variety of co-curricular activities and club engagements.
Subjects for secondary school students are more conceptual as the science and social studies modules are divided into biology, chemistry, physics and history, economics, civics, and geography. Besides Arabic, English and mathematics, world languages are also compulsory for students in the secondary section.
Students in Grade 9 and 10 must study six subjects for the ICSE examination. As per the requirements set by the UAE Ministry of Education, Arabic is mandatory for students until Grade 9 while Islamic education is compulsory for Muslims. Students have the option to select either commerce stream or science stream for the senior school. Securing an average of 65% marks in Grade 8 in science subjects is necessary to study Science in Grade 9.

Some of the aforementioned subjects will only be offered if sufficient students choose them. Please note that for the commerce stream, science in group II is replaced by economics and Economic application in group III is replaced by a commercial application.

For the ISC examination, students have to study five subjects. Group 1 (English) is compulsory whereas students can opt for four subjects from group 2 to group 6. Only one subject can be selected from each group. Please note that students who opted for the commerce stream in Grade 10 are not eligible to choose physics, chemistry and biology for ICS. Students opted for the science stream in Grade 10 needs to secure at least 65% in physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics and computer science.
Assessments for Grade 9 and Grade 11 are done by the internally by the school while assessments for Grade 10 and Grade 12 are done by the National board. Generally, ISC and ICSE examinations are held in March and results are announced in May.
IB Diploma Programme students are required to select one subject from each of the six subject groups listed below. The sixth subject may be an arts subject chosen from Group 6 or another subject from Groups 3 or 4.

The GEMS Modern Academy school offers a scholarship programme (merit-based) designed to reward students excelling in Academics, Sports, Innovation & Digital Technology, Creative and Performing Arts and Arabic Studies.
These annual scholarships will only be valid for a single academic year. A candidate can apply again depending on their annual academic progress. To apply for GEMS Scholarships, parents are requested to fill the online application form.
GEMS Modern Academy has a cafeteria. Moreover, children can bring packed lunches from home. The cafeteria offers sandwiches, meals, fruits and beverages.
Modern Academy transportation is managed by to School Transport Services (STS), which has ISO 9001:2008 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certifications. They maintain a large fleet of buses as per the requirements of Road Transport Authority (RTA) Dubai.
