First Steps Nursery Montessori (FSNM) was founded in 1994 to provide quality education to expats living in Umm Suqeim. First Step Nursery in Umm Suqeim educates children aged 18 months to up to 4/5 years. Little ones are taught the Montessori and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.

Housed in a villa, the First Steps Nursery Montessori campus is spacious, bright and colourful. Classrooms are decorated with artwork by students. Learning resources and furniture are bright in colour to intrigue students and pique their interest. In a similar manner, corridors and hallways are naturally lit and are transformed into corners where little ones can engage in their imaginative world.

First Steps Nursery Montessori Dubai curriculum is based on the EYFS curriculum entwined with the Montessori thread. The EYFS ignites curiosity in kids while assisting in learning. Also, it allows the child to work, explore, observe and create.

The EYFS program has seven areas of learning and development:

• Personal sound and emotional development
• Physical development

• Literacy

• Understanding of the world
• Expressive arts and design

Within the Montessori methods of teaching, the EYFS curriculum expects that children:

• Perform basic skills with independence and confidence
• Develop senses through hands-on experience (sight, taste, sound, touch and smell)
• Understand basic mathematical concepts such as quantities and numerical
• Are familiar and confident in using phonics for reading
• Are interested in science, environment, culture, geography and history

Learning is often blended with Music and Arts. Attending music and art classes encourages children to freely express themselves through dance, singing, mixing colours and use of mediums to make artworks.

Apart from the daily routine of eating, napping and bathroom runs, FSNM, Umm Suqeim runs two main sessions between 02:00 p.m. and 06:00 p.m. 

The first session includes working on gross motor skills outdoors unless the weather does not permit. The second session is language acquisition through pretend play based on the month's theme. Individual needs are also addressed during these times since fewer kids make it more feasible.

Arabic is mandatory for all. Non-Arabic speakers have two formal sessions, while Arabic speakers have five sessions. Arabic songs and music are a regular feature of circle time and music lessons. Also, the staff speaks English, Arabic and French.

As a safety precaution, the entire campus is monitored by CCTV cameras. Parents or visitors entering the campus need to provide authentication and signature.

Moreover, a fully-equipped clinic is responsible for attending minor emergencies and providing first-aid care. The medical staff checks the temperature, weight and height of students. Parents should give information about their child's medical condition during admission.

Furthermore, FSNM in Umm Suqeim encourages parents and children to adopt healthy eating habits. The nursery prepares food in a clean and hygienic environment. Additionally, ingredients used in lunch are fresh and organic and include vital nutrients crucial for children at a young age. The menu is designed keeping in mind health and taste factors.

Parents can easily communicate with the nursery and caretakers at First Steps Nursery. The nursery encourages parents and guardians to attend open houses to discuss their child's progress with the teachers. Additionally, working parents can request updates on their child's performance and progress from the teacher at the end of the day.
