The school curriculum is based on the US academic standards set by the State of California. Other than core subjects, Arabic and Islamic Studies are added to the curriculum. Both subjects are in line with the Ministry of Education standards.
In the Early Childhood phase (KG1 and KG2) children learn through play and are taught language skills in both English and Arabic. During this phase, they also get familiar with numbers and the basics of science. Students are assessed based on their developed skills.
The Elementary Phase consists of Grade 1 until Grade 5. A special focus during this phase is the development of comprehension skills and critical thinking. Mathematics is taught through a systematic approach for a better understanding of algebra. Science is added to the syllabus as a part of the STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) study.
Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) is used to assess students from Grade 2 to Grade 5. This test helps to measure a student’s ability and approach to learning. CAT4 also helps teachers to design lessons to meet the individual needs of students.
Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) is an assessment method used for students in KG2 to Grade 5. The test is conducted thrice in an academic year to measure attainment in the previous two years and the current year. Students are evaluated based on their language skills, Mathematics, Science and reading.
Formative and summative assessments are also carried out to check the progress of different skills. The results of these assessments are communicated to parents weekly via the Parent Portal.
The Middle School curriculum followed by DAAS prepares students for college and their future careers. This phase involves Grade 6 to Grade 8. Students are encouraged to solve multi-step mathematical problems and are introduced to pre-algebra. The integrated curriculum helps students explore different disciplines of science. Just like the Elementary phase, students of Middle School are also assessed through CAT4, MAP and Formative and Summative assessments.
The High School curriculum prepares students in a way that they make appropriate career choices and get admission in a reputable university. Students are required to earn 26 credits for passing the US High School Diploma. Also, passing with a minimum of 60% marks in all subjects is essential.
Students can choose elective subjects based on their interest. University and Career Counsellors are available to answer any query related to university admissions and career selection.
