Dove Green Private School, The Greens is a British curriculum-based facility. The overall curriculum is guided under the National Curriculum of England but is modified to incorporate the UAE’s culture.
Taking guidance from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) programme, FS1 and FS2 students are encouraged to participate in child-initiated and teacher-led activities. Similarly, structured play is at the heart of the Foundation Stage. Teachers engage students in outdoor and indoor play opportunities to boost physical education, numeracy and literacy skills.
Five key areas of development are emphasised at this stage.
Key Stage 1 aims to provide the best start to formal education for students. A challenging curriculum is set inclusive of innovative teaching strategies that engage students in subjects like English, Mathematics, Science and Arabic.
As students move on to Key Stage 2, technology is imperative to comprehend the subjects taught Tools such as assessments, group work, creative work and independent research are incorporated into the curriculum resulting in productive learning sessions. Moral education is compulsory for students of Year 1 to Year 6. The programme is based on four major components, including Character and Morality, Individuals and the Community, Cultural Studies and Civic Studies.
The focus in these years is to build on the children’s previous knowledge from Years 5 and 6 and continue to use the thinking tools they have been taught. English (literacy) and mathematics (numeracy) are central elements in the curriculum and will be taught discretely.
The skills taught in both subjects are transferable and used in other subject areas. The main aim at this stage is to integrate the latest technology and creative and investigative work so that students are equipped to engage and complete various age-appropriate tasks.
Children are taught all subjects of the National Curriculum of England, plus Arabic, Social Studies, Moral Education and a modern foreign language, with specialist teachers for all subjects. In addition, Dove Green School teaches children the skills needed to move from Year 9 to Year 10 smoothly. This ensures that they are well informed about the curriculum choices they need for Years 10 and 11.
Key Stage 4 is a two year programme as per the UK National Curriculum. Currently, the school has only inlcuded arrangements for Year 10 as per the KHDA's approval. However, the school has plan to add Year 11 in upcoming years.
Subjects taught to students in this stage include English, mathematics, Arabic, Science, Islamic Studies, Social, Moral and Cultural Studies.
Students can also choose three optional GCSE's subjects.
The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) was established to assess and assist private schools in Dubai achieve excellence in education. The performance of private schools is evaluated by KHDA every year.
Currently, Dove Green Private School’s KHDA rating is ‘Good.’
As per the report, Dove Green School, Dubai has been successfully maintained an inclusive environment with the help of senior leaders and the principal. Also, students have been observed performing and behaving well with their peers and within the school community.
Furthermore, Foundation Stage students have been seen portraying a remarkable understanding of English, Science and Maths. Students of determination are provided with a good support system. In addition, the school’s provision of lunch and physical education activities ensures that children are enjoying the best health.
Nonetheless, the same report highlighted a couple of areas that require improvement. DGPS, Dubai Investment Park needs to ensure that students’ attainment in Arabic as an additional language is adequate. Second, more strategic and innovative teaching ways must be adopted when planning daily lessons.
