Al Murooj English School aims to deliver an excellent academic programme in a nurturing atmosphere and encourages close student-teacher relationships. The school prepares students for personal and academic success.
The school understands that the time students spend on campus is the time for social, emotional and creative development. And this must be characterised by a lifelong love of learning and diverse friendship.
Al Murooj School Sharjah empowers children with the confidence to face the ever-changing world and future challenges. It strives to provide the very best start to education and allows students to shine socially and academically. Students are encouraged to become valued members of the community.
Students’ and teachers’ one-on-one relationship is one of the best features of AMES Sharjah. Teachers try their best to make classes interesting and inspiring. They believe that classroom sessions shouldn’t be monotonous or boring. In fact, they must be designed as highly interactive sessions. Audio-visual presentations are used for making lessons more interesting for children of all age groups.
Al Murooj offers classes from FS1 to Year 7 (Grade 6). Years offered at AMES are divided into following sections:
Section | Grade |
---|---|
Kindergarten | KG 1 & KG 2 |
Primary | Grade 1 – Grade 6 |
The Kindergarten section is based on the Early Year Foundation Stage of the British curriculum that supports the early learning and care approach.
Teachers at this stage adopt a thematic approach and involve children in a variety of well-supervised and planned structure-based activities. More formal activities are introduced in KG 1.
In KG 2, teachers have a flexible approach and several mini-topics are incorporated into the curriculum based on children’s interest and natural curiosity.
The Foundation Stage curriculum revolves around these seven areas:
This area involves providing children with opportunities in a rich language environment. Students are able to express themselves and work on their confidence and skills.
This component involves providing active and interactive opportunities to students. Teachers also strive to develop coordination and polish fine motor skills and movement in children. There is a large play space to ensure students learn in a relaxed atmosphere. Highly caring and supportive staff work on child’s independence, interpersonal skills and wider learning goals.
This stage is about helping students focus on their social skills. Students are taught to manage their feelings and understand behaviour in a group.
Counting, use of numbers, understanding and simple calculations are taught in Mathematics. Students also learn about shapes, spaces and measurement.
Students can link sounds and letters and start reading and writing. Students get access to a wide range of reading materials, including books and poems.
This core segment is all about enabling thorough learning through the use of media and materials. Students get sufficient opportunities for testing their knowledge base and are encouraged to share their ideas, feelings and thoughts. This is made easier with activities related to art, dance, role-play, technology and design.
Each learning and developing area is broken down into Early Learning Goals. Teachers assess the progress and achievement of students throughout the academic year. Teaching judgments are made by observing consistent and independent behaviour.
As children transition to higher grades, AMES empowers them with:
AMES understands that there is a remarkable change in a student’s personality, intellectual capacity and behavioural patterns as he/she approaches senior grades. Hence, the primary school curriculum works on critical and lateral thinking. There is a significant focus on the interactive approach through group activities and hands-on activities. In ICT classes, technology is implemented to help develop an investigative mind. Children are encouraged to ask questions, and extra time is given for discussion of current events.
The academic year at AMES begins in the last week of August and ends in June. Each academic year has three terms besides a winter, spring and summer break. The school remains closed during all UAE public holidays.
