Phases | Years Covered |
---|---|
Early Years Foundation Stage | FS 1 – FS 2 |
Lower Primary | Year 1 – Year 2 |
Upper Primary | Year 3 – Year 4 |
Middle School | Year 5 – Year 8 |
Senior School | Year 9 – Year 13 |
Al Mamoura Academy delivers the English National Curriculum – a globally recognised syllabus. The curriculum takes on a project-based learning approach that challenges students to face real-world tasks. Students work towards the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations and take A-levels in the Sixth Form.
The curriculum also accommodates subjects such as Arabic, Islamic and UAE Social Studies as mandated by the Ministry of Education. These are taught by specialist teachers throughout every year group.
The EYFS curriculum takes on a thematic and study-based approach. The Early Years Foundation Stage includes Foundation Stage 1 and Foundation Stage 2.
There are six core areas of learning:
The lower primary consists of Year 1 and Year 2. Here, the school provides a successful, seamless transition from the EYFS curriculum into the English National Curriculum (ENC). Students are also taught Ministry of Education (MOE) subjects.
Al Mamoura Academy ensures teaching and learning cater for the different needs of individual children. The learning process is conducted via enquiry or ‘project-based learning‘ – a method of teaching that encourages children to enhance their knowledge and skill by completing real-world challenges.
Subjects covered at this level include:
Upper Primary includes classes from Year 3 to Year 4. This level is more of an extension of the lower primary with similar subjects taught in these two years. In the upper primary, children are encouraged to adapt to new settings, quickly grasping teaching and learning methods and new expectations. This helps students to improve their academic and non-academic performance.
Transitioning to middle school can be difficult for students but Al Mamoura makes the transition seamless for children.
Running from Year 5 to Year 8, the middle school introduces teacher-specific subjects and a completely new teaching and learning method. Students become independent learners and form a basis for their senior years.
The international curriculum at this stage is designed to meet the growing needs of students by offering a more holistic approach based on collaboration, creativity and innovative minds.
Subjects covered at middle school are available under the curriculum section on the school website.
The senior school has a skills-focused programme that provides students with a broad and balanced knowledge of key subjects, critical thinking and communication skills.
Students get to choose either the English National curriculum or the US curriculum in Year 8. To facilitate students during this crucial period, the school provides career support from Career Advisers . Parent information meetings, assemblies, group chats and one-on-one chats also support children during this period.
Students who opt for the English National Curriculum start their two-year examination course. It includes preparing for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSEs). Al Mamoura Academy offers Pearsons Edexcel and Cambridge examination board – two boards of examination that are widely recognised and open doors for students at international level.
Students study the core IGCSEs in English, Maths and Science. These main subjects are often taken with optional IGCSEs subjects.
Students who prefer National Curriculum of England in Year 12 and Year 13 undergo the A-Levels examinations and have the chance to study for the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Students have to appear in 3 A-Levels in these two years.
The A Level ensures students develop a mastery of several complementary or contrasting subject areas. A Level subjects are taught by specialist teachers with a reputable name in the field. They support students in making choices for university and beyond.
Students who choose the United States curriculum will be taught under the Massachusetts curriculum. The American Massachusetts State Curriculum is a four-year program that is highly regarded in the United States. Students graduate with their High School Diploma at the end of Year 13 (Grade 12). The American High School Diploma is the standard qualification to gain entry into leading US universities and colleges.
The most interesting thing about this curriculum is that it allows for flexibility at the end of each year where students have the chance to change their option subjects.
To obtain the High School Diploma, students have to study English, Maths and Science as well as three optional subjects.
