ADEK rating for private and public schools
ADEK rating standards

ADEK inspected ADNOC Schools -SAN from 10th to 13th March 2019 and rated it as “Good.”

As per the ADNOC Schools ADEK rating and report, the overall performance of the school is good. Students’ achievement is also good in all phases. Teachers at the school deliver quality lessons that keep students engaged. However, the middle school’s boys are not fully engaged in classroom lessons. Students’ behaviour and attendance have improved, but this is not the case with the boys’ section.

The curriculum supports active learning, especially in English medium subjects.

The school’s new senior leadership team has a clear idea of its strengths. They also addressed key priorities for improvement, resulting in improved results for students.

Children’s attainment in KG is good in all subjects. In the middle phase, however, it is acceptable across most subjects. Students achieve high standards in Arts and Science and make good progress in most subjects.

Students at Sas Al Nakhl Adnoc School can learn independently. Their attainment in Mathematics at the high school level is appreciable. Most students are enthusiastic about learning and taking on additional responsibility. Their problem-solving and innovation skills are well developed, which means they can think and act independently.

Students’ personal and social development is good. Most students show positive attitudes for learning. They show a well-developed understanding of the UAE culture and heritage. KG and primary students are punctual. However, this is not the case with middle and high school students, as they are often late or absent. Most students are respectful and value others in ADNOC Schools Sas Al Nakhl Abu Dhabi.

Most teachers plan interesting and enjoyable lessons to motivate students. Teachers in the high phase have very high expectations, and lessons are often inspiring. In the primary stage, teachers promote learning efficiently with the support of relevant tasks and activities. Teachers do not use assessment completely to gauge students’ achievement against the curriculum.

Staff have improved curriculum planning, and it meets the expectation of the American curriculum. Familiar examples are introduced to build students’ understanding of their country.

The curriculum is effective when it comes to developing students’ learning skills. Those in High School make good progress. But, the idea does not work for middle school boys.

Curriculum delivery for Arabic-medium subjects is not consistent. Similarly, Arabic subject content is yet to be integrated as successfully as English medium subjects.

ADNOC School Sas Al Nakhl has a safe and nurturing learning environment. High school students get quality career advice. The school promptly identifies and supports students who need help in learning.

The new senior leadership team has made substantial progress in improving the school. The leadership now provides valuable advice to teachers.

Key areas of strength at ADNOC Schools Sas Al Nakhl are:

  • American curriculum adaptation in the UAE context
  • Development and review of the curriculum in the primary phase
  • Students’ high achievement in primary and high phase in Science
  • Pastoral and academic support for students’ learning especially those with Special Educational Need (SEN)

ADEK report also highlights areas that need improvement.

  • The school should continue to raise achievement across all grades by:
    • Increasing the quality of teaching within the school
    • Developing a school curriculum in Arabic-medium subjects to integrate more meaningful learning
    • Improving the representation of Arabic subjects in the senior leadership team
    • Working on the accuracy and use of internal assessment data for monitoring and improving achievement.
  • Improve punctuality and attendance by:
    • Continuously working with parents to help them understand the value of attendance and punctuality
    • Improving supervision and recording students’ punctuality
  • Improve learning and behaviour in boys in the middle school phase by:
    • Involving parents and students for reviewing behaviour, expectations and creating a code of conduct
    • Implementing and consistently applying a discipline policy and rewards. Also, sanctions must be linked with the code of conduct
