All about the Wynn Resort in Ras Al Khaimah
Wynn Resorts, one of the world’s leading independent hotel developers and operators, announced an impressive project in the UAE. The company confirmed a 1,500-room mega-resort in Ras Al Khaimah, which sparked seismic excitement throughout the country’s hospitality and tourism sectors. The project is being worked on rapidly, and the UAE’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) has also issued it a gaming licence. Want to know more about Wynn Ras Al Khaimah? We have all the details that have been made public so far.
ABOUT WYNN RAS AL KHAIMAH
Expected to launch in 2027, the multi-billion-dollar resort will embody imperial splendour, old-school charm and Arabian eccentricity. It will offer a breathtaking array of amenities, facilities and entertainment choices.
Wynn Resorts CEO Craig Billings announced that the groundwork for the luxurious Wynn Al Marjan resort, worth $3.9 billion, is nearing completion. This paves the way for the next stage of construction, which will involve building the vertical structure.
Billings reiterated further:
“Construction of Wynn Al Marjan Island continues, with much of the hotel tower and podium foundation complete and preparations underway to start vertical construction of the hotel tower. We are confident the resort will be a ‘must see’ tourism destination in the UAE”
GAMING LICENCE
As mentioned earlier, the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority has issued the resort a gaming licence after an extensive and diligent review.
While gambling is banned in the UAE, commercial gaming is permitted.
As per the authority, commercial gaming can be defined as ‘any game of chance, or combination of chance and skill, where an amount of money, in cash or cash equivalents, is wagered – placed as a bet – for the purpose of winning a sum of money or other valuable items’.
This is a major milestone for Wynn, which operates casino hotel resorts in Las Vegas, Boston and Macau.
WYNN RESORT RAS AL KHAIMAH LOCATION
The resort will be located on RAK’s Marjan Island, a man-made archipelago that stretches 4.5km into the Arabian Gulf. Marjan, comprising four islands, ensures that tourists see RAK as an attractive option for a sun-kissed vacation. Wynn complex is set further to increase Ras Al Khaimah’s allure with potential visitors.
WYNN RESORT RAK DESIGN
Inspired by the natural landscape and architecture of Wynn Resorts, the design of the upcoming resort boasts a slightly curved shape encompassing a beach, which reflects through its podium structure. The inside of the resort has uber-luxe features, characterised by red and orange hues, flower arrangements and several facilities.

However, the resort aspect that has garnered the most attention since the announcement is undoubtedly the gaming area.
So, what form will this gaming area take, and what will it feature? The next section looks at what we know about this intriguing development.
CASINO
As per the latest announcements, Wynn Marjan will include an 18,500 sq. m. casino, making it one of the ten biggest facilities in the world – almost double the size of its Las Vegas property.
Talking about Wynn Casino Ras Al Khaimah, Craig Billings, Wynn Resorts CEO, said:
“The casino component, where at least for some period of time we will be operating on our own, which makes it quite exciting, is shaping up to be somewhat larger than Wynn Las Vegas, but with numerous pockets of energy and compression.”
This will be the first casino in the UAE. Therefore, Ras Al Khaimah’s authorities are using US and Singaporean regulations to write a gaming law for the UAE. The licence structure and tax rate will also be reasonable.
According to Billings:
“…With the regulatory framework taking shape and a regulator in place, we will be licenced to conduct gaming in Ras Al Khaimah.”
Whilst Wynn and RAK tourism chiefs haven’t yet revealed the exact form and features of the gaming area, a spokesperson for Marjan acknowledged that the gaming zone would be an enlivening source of entertainment for guests, in compliance with the UAE’s cultural traditions:
“Gaming is a responsible form of entertainment and leisure tourism that takes into consideration community, cultural and social norms.”
Wynn’s new resort will perhaps be the test case for a whole new aspect of tourism in the UAE. Time will tell the full story!
