All about the VOX Cinemas Drive-in theatre at the Mall of the Emirates
Mall of the Emirates is a popular destination for shopping and entertainment in Dubai with an abundance of family-friendly activities and recreational facilities. The brand new VOX drive-in cinema is the latest addition to the list of things to explore in this highly-visited mall. VOX CINEMAS DRIVE-IN DUBAI LAUNCH EVENT
Majid Al Futtaim Group launched the VOX Cinemas Drive-in theatre at a private, invite-only event on Wednesday, 13 May 2020. During the event, the guests and the hosts followed strict social distancing protocols established by the Government of Dubai.
As part of the occasion, Cameron Mitchell, the chief executive of Majid Al Futtaim Cinemas said in a statement that the VOX Cinemas Drive-in allows visitors to enjoy the big screen experience without compromising on their health and well-being.
“With the gradual easing of restrictions on people’s movement, it’s also the perfect opportunity for people to safely enjoy the big screen experience again with a family member,” said Cameron Mitchell, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim – Cinemas.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT VOX CINEMAS DRIVE-IN?
The VOX Cinemas Drive-in screens movies on Level 3 of MOE’s outdoor parking space, which can be accessed via Exit 39 on Sheikh Zayed Road. The rooftop cinema has a 20-metre wide screen and can hold 75 cars.
After driving in, the ushers scan the QR code provided, provide the F&B package and place a coloured sticker on the windshield of the car indicating a row and slot number. Traffic controllers then guide the vehicles to a designated spot based on the colour of the sticker.
Before the movie starts audience will then have to tune-in to a special frequency (VOX 87.6 FM) to listen to the accompanying audio of the movie being played on a giant screen.
A popular concept in the past, interest in drive-in cinemas had waned in recent years, thanks to the multiplexes and immersive theatre experiences provided by modern cinemas in the UAE. But prior to this, drive-in cinemas were popular with moviegoers in the UAE, especially during the cool, winter months. Old-timers in Dubai used to frequent Rex’s Drive-In Cinemas on Al Khawaneej Road, an outdoor drive-in cinema close to Mushrif Park while long-time residents of Abu Dhabi often reminisce about the drive-theatres in the capital. Who knew that this old-school idea would provide a solution to a modern-day problem? With the new drive-in cinema by VOX at Mall of the Emirates there is now a safe way to enjoy the latest flicks without compromising on one’s safety.

VOX DRIVE-IN CINEMA TICKET PRICE
You can have a unique movie experience at the VOX Drive-in Cinema. The VOX Drive-in cinema ticket price of AED 180 plus VAT per car includes an F&B package that offers:
- Two popcorns
- One Nachos Supreme
- Two soft drinks
- Two water bottles
- One large M&Ms
The tickets at the drive-in cinema in the Mall of the Emirates are paperless that can be scanned with a QR code. A maximum of two passengers per car are permitted on a single ticket, whereas children aged three to 12 and adults over 60 are not allowed.
Tickets are available on the official UAE VOX cinemas website. All proceeds from the May 17, 2020 ticket sales will go to the 10 Million Meals, one of the biggest charities in Dubai in Ramadan.
