The UAE has a new logo!
It’s official! The UAE has a new logo. The chosen logo is called 7 Lines and there were 10 million people from the UAE and the rest of the world who voted to help the government narrow down on the choice!
On 17 December 2019, the new United Arab Emirates logo was opened to a public vote. The UAE logo is an integral part of the UAE Nation Brand (#uaenationbrand) – a national mission launched by His Highness (H.H.) Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
THE WINNING LOGO – 7 LINES
The UAE new logo has seven lines etching the map of the country. Each line represents one of the seven emirates in the country. These lines are depicted as solid, fixed columns stacked side by side – a tribute to the optimism, dynamism and momentum instilled by the seven leaders who brought their people together for the collective mission to achieve their aspirations.
The seven pillars in vibrant colours are a reflection of the UAE’s innovation and excellence-driven journey to development and progress. These pillars are designed in the colours of the UAE flag – black, green, red and white, where the white alternates each colour in a depiction of the spirit that unites the people of the UAE weaving a social fabric enriched with diversity evident in the country’s population.
A TREE FOR EVERY VOTE
In an attempt to take the UAE’s commitment to its sustainability and progress a notch higher, the country announced that it would plant a tree for every vote it received to finalise the new national logo.
There were 10 MILLION VOTES, which means the UAE will plant 10 MILLION TREES across the globe!
This is the country’s way of spreading hope and improving lives by contributing to a better environment for everyone. So, thank you for voting!
THE UAE NATION BRAND
The UAE has always endeavoured to harness the maximum potential of its resources and institutions to achieve the highest levels of prosperity for its citizens. These efforts are reflected in the global image of the UAE, where it is deemed as a safe and progressive country, offering healthy prospects for all.
The introduction of a UAE brand logo inspired by the country’s history, culture and progress helps convert the UAE’s global image into a national brand that communicates its story and creates a strong media identity for it. The UAE Nation Brand will help the country connect with the world – as an emblem and representation of excellence in inclusivity, openness and perpetual growth.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE UAE BRAND IMAGE
The UAE is constantly striving to achieve globalisation. It has launched massive initiatives and campaigns that resonate with the world as a whole. This national mission to create a brand image is also part of these campaigns. The importance of the UAE brand image lies in promoting a prosperous United Arab Emirates to the world. Doing so, would:
- Publish the UAE’s story of success starting from the establishment of the Federation
- Promote the original identity of the country
- Portray the UAE’s positive image at both regional and global levels
- Highlight the country’s distinctive features and characteristics
- Promote the country’s attractions as a meeting point between the East and the West
- Establish the UAE’s position as a significant hub for business and innovation in the Middle East and North Africa
- Explain its all-embracing values for different talents, experiences, creativity and innovation and for all those with scientific, intellectual, literary and other ambitions
The idea is to communicate to the world, the UAE’s inspiring success story – something that is worth taking pride in and sharing with other people and civilizations of the world. This nation brand initiative will, in the long run, shed light on all the strategic plans and initiatives of the UAE that are designed to achieve progress, renaissance and development on all levels.
OTHER NOMINATIONS FOR THE NEW UAE LOGO
There were two other logo design nominations for the UAE brand image. Just like the winning logo, these UAE logo designs depicted the story of the UAE in their own unique way.
EMIRATES IN CALLIGRAPHY
This UAE logo in Arabic script embodied the name of the country, which has a special place in the hearts of its residents and citizens. This design expressed the beauty of Arabic calligraphy, complete with its originality, elegant curves and smooth transition. The curves and flow of the script depicted the most prominent geographic features of the UAE – the sand dunes in the desert, like liquid gold, forming soft waves as they smoothly merge with the waves of the sea.
The smooth flow and movement of the script’s letters also embodied the coexistence in the UAE. It highlighted the perpetual social growth of the nation in the wake of challenges, whereby nothing is impossible to achieve.
THE PALM
The third nominee for the brand logo of the UAE was the palm tree. An indispensable part of the UAE’s history, the palm tree is identified as the unconditional giver. This logo was coloured in matt, muted gold to manifest the colour of sand dunes basking in the sunlight. The elegant palm leaves symbolised a nation moving forward with impetus and vigour.
The palm tree was also a tribute to the strength of the leaders and the people of the UAE, who like the tree itself, withstood challenges and storms only to emerge stronger than ever. The high reaching fronds of the palm tree depict the ambitions and aspirations of the country’s people, while the tree itself that provides shade and sustenance resonates with the UAE and its open policies that support millions of people from across the world.
HOW DID THE UAE CHOOSE ITS NATION BRAND LOGO
The UAE asked people to vote. Voting for the new UAE logo to represent the UAE Nation Brand was open for everyone living in and outside the country. People only had to visit the UAE Nation Brand website, and click on the logo that best described the country, its story and its people. People voted and you have it – 7 Lines – the UAE’s new logo.
This national mission of establishing a personal brand for the country will contribute to the UAE’s Theme for 2020 – Towards the Next 50. The theme will see the seven emirates of the UAE strive to create a country where future generations can thrive with innovation, excellence and tolerance.
This theme is an extension of one of the most popular quotes of H.H (the late) Sheikh Zayed, Founding Father of the UAE:
“Future generations will be living in a world that is very different from that to which we are accustomed. It is essential that we prepare ourselves and our children for that new world.”
H.H. the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the UAE was a visionary who left behind a legacy of righteous values like equality, generosity, coexistence, tolerance and charity. The royal families of the UAE to date, uphold these values as the foundation stones and core principles of the modern-day state of United Arab Emirates.
