The UAE celebrated its 50th anniversary with zeal and fervour. To mark the country’s golden jubilee and honour its founding fathers, The Central Bank of The United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) issued seven commemorative silver coins that are now available for sale. THE HISTORY
Referred to as the Father of the Nation, His Highness late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Former Ruler of Abu Dhabi met H.H. late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Then Ruler of Dubai to sign a formal agreement on 18th February 1968, which led to linking the seven emirates together. Three years later, on 2nd December 1971, a new sovereign nation was born.
The coins pay homage to the UAE’s first-generation rulers and their legacy as their wise leadership is continued by the current leaders of the UAE.
ABOUT THE COMMEMORATIVE COINS
The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) has issued about 3,000 sets of the seven silver commemorative coins that are available for purchase.
This is what Governor of the CBUAE, Khaled Mohamed Balama said about the coins, “This coin issuance honours the founding fathers for their significant role in establishing the Federation of the Seven Emirates, and in line with the current wise leadership’s to continue the legacy of the founders in building a nation to which we are proud to belong.”
WHAT DO THE UAE COMMEMORATIVE SILVER COINS LOOK LIKE?
Weighing 28 grams each, the front of the UAE new silver coin depicts a black and white image of one of the founding fathers of the nation. Next to the image is a colour picture of one of the current rulers of the Emirates, who form the Federal Supreme Council.
The other side of the new UAE commemorative coins features the 50th year logo, the Central Bank of the UAE in English and Arabic and AED 50 in Arabic which is the worth of the coin.
The founding fathers of the UAE include His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Sharqi, H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla, H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, H.H. Sheikh Saqr bin Muhammad Al Qasimi and H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.
