Hatta to get a facelift with new tourism projects!
It was announced that a number of impressive tourism projects for Hatta are to be instigated to attract more visitors to the region. The developments are all part of the Hatta Development Plan launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Let’s take a look at what’s coming to Hatta.
HATTA DEVELOPMENT PLAN: AN OVERVIEW
Hatta is getting a major facelift with several projects lined up for the next five years. One of the most popular holiday destinations in the UAE is set to attract more visitors with the new projects under the Hatta Development Plan.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai approved the five-year Hatta Master Development Plan – a part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The new Hatta tourism development plan is set to meet the highest global and sustainability standards in design and construction. Building materials are specifically chosen to be ecologically sound, ensuring there’s no adverse impact on the ecosystem.
A significant goal has been set to establish Hatta as a regional eco-tourism destination, with the first phase of these initiatives set to open later in the year.
New Tourism Projects in Hatta
The details unveiled about the tourism projects for Hatta include a 5.4-kilometre chairlift system, Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls, an international hotel and new hiking trails up to Jebel Umm Al Nisour as well as 120km of bicycle paths.
The Five Year Plan (2022 – 2026) includes plans for a direct bus service from Dubai to Hatta that allows passengers to carry bicycles and scooters in an onboard compartment. A similar plan includes constructing the longest bike track in the UAE with rest stops and service facilities that will host international competitions and events.
Another project to look forward to is the Local Farming Experience Program which puts emphasis on the agricultural aspects of Hatta. The introduction of new methods will allow farmers to achieve a better production yield and also offer an opportunity for eco-tourism in Hatta.
Jebel Umm Al Nisour, at 1,300 metres above sea level, is Dubai’s highest natural peak. The planned development for the peak includes a sky bridge and an observation deck that will be collectively called the Dubai Mountain Peak.
The chairlift line will cross the Hatta Dam Lake and Upper Dam Lake (part of the DEWA hydroelectric project) to connect to the summit. The departure station will be constructed on a platform above the Hatta Dam.
Meanwhile, the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project will use the dam’s slope to create an artificial waterfall. Water from the waterfall will be collected at the stream’s end, recycled and pumped back to the dam’s top to fall again. The project is expected to be completed by mid-November in 2022.
There are also plans to allow the residents of Hatta to build 200 holiday homes in a bid to promote greater economic growth in the UAE. This project alone is expected to generate AED 100 million for the region.
Tourism projects for Hatta began in 2016 and tourist numbers have since risen substantially, reaching one million in 2020. To further promote tourism, the government has announced plans to offer ride-sharing services and dedicated tourist coaches that will allow access to Wadi Hub, Hatta Dam, Heritage Village and Al Tal Park.
Once completed, these attractions will offer some of the best things to do in Hatta.
