Dubai is one of the world’s most popular destinations, for good reason. The city has evolved into a mega-urban empire that offers unparalleled luxury and grandeur. From fancy cars to mind-blowing architecture, there’s plenty to see and do in Dubai that you won’t have access to anywhere else in the world! Here is our round-up of some cool and crazy things you will only see in Dubai which prove how amazing this city truly is.
INCREDIBLE THINGS YOU WILL ONLY SEE IN DUBAI
Dubai is home to some of the most unbelievable skyscrapers, ultra-luxurious hotels, unique experiences and expensive items in the world. Here is a list of the most impressive things you can only see in Dubai:
A LIBRARY SHAPED LIKE A BOOK
Ever wanted to immerse yourself into a book you are reading and live the life of your favourite character? The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library offers just that but instead of a single storey building, you enter into a world of a million stories! Located by the Dubai Creek, the MBR Library’s design is inspired by the shape of the Rehl (a tradition lectern that holds books). This massive seven-storey library will feature more than 10 million books in various specialised sections, a 500 seat theatre, and multiple interactive zones.
A FLEET OF LUXURY POLICE SUPERCARS
Luxury sports cars cruising on the roads is a novelty sight for many….but the police force in Dubai has its own fleet of supercars!
From Lamborghinis and McLarens, to Mercedes and Rolls Royces, the Dubai Police cars are a visual treat. The city actually holds the Guinness World Record for having the world’s fastest police car, the Bugatti Veyron – one of the top 10 world records held by Dubai.
High-speed car chases will never be a worry for the Dubai Police because the perpetrator doesn’t stand a chance. Imagine getting pulled over by a Bugatti Veyron? That’s one of the things you only see in Dubai. Some of the most popular places to spot the Dubai police supercars include The Dubai Mall entrance, The Walk JBR and City Walk.
UNIQUE MODES OF TRANSPORTATION
Yes, spotting a Lamborghini cruising down the roads of the city is a common enough sight in Dubai. But when it comes to transportation, there are some unique things you will only see in Dubai.
Want to take a helicopter instead of the taxi? Just use a cab-hailing app and choose your very own helicopter! Uber offers riders the option to book an UBERchopper, that takes you on a 15-minute excursion around the city’s iconic landmarks.
If a chopper isn’t fancy enough to suit your style, make a James Bond-style entrance in a seaplane! You can contact some of the popular tour operators in the city to find out more about availability and permissions.
And that’s not all! Dubai will soon have the world’s first-ever commercial hyperloop capsule. The pioneering technology will have you travelling at whopping speeds of 1,123 km/h, reducing the travel time from Abu Dhabi to Dubai from a few hours to mere minutes. It is one of the most anticipated futuristic developments in Dubai. Similarly, the RTA plans to introduce Sky Pods, which means residents would be able to use high-speed sky cable cars to avoid traffic on the ground!
EVERYTHING AT YOUR FINGERTIPS NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE
It’s a well-known fact that Dubai offers its residents the highest standard of living. But did you know you can get everything delivered to you, no matter where you are? Cruising the middle of the sea but want a hot snack? Just call the sailing supermarket – Carrefour Bites and More by the Shore. This sailing supermarket in Dubai not only serves hot and cold snacks, but you can also buy ice cream, fresh food, beverages and non-food items like sunscreen and over-the-counter medicines!
Conveniences in Dubai are not reserved to the sea! Need to get some cheese for your salad? Place a quick call or use one of the popular grocery delivery apps in Dubai to get the items delivered to your door. Running low on petrol? Have your trusty neighbourhood petrol delivery service, Cafu, come and refuel! This is certainly not something you will find anywhere else in the world!
ROBOT CAMEL JOCKEYS
Another amazing thing you will only see in Dubai is a robot camel jockey. Camel racing is amongst the longest-standing of Emirati traditions practised in the city. But the sport has evolved with time and robot jockeys have now replaced humans.
The small robots mounted on the camels have a walkie-talkie speaker through which owners can deliver commands to the camels. There is also a small remote control whip which the owners can operate during the race.
A MUSEUM THAT WILL HOLD ITEMS OF THE FUTURE
Museums are known for hosting artefacts of the past, but not in Dubai. This city is all about the future and there is an entire museum dedicated to it. Located next to Emirates Towers on Sheikh Zayed Road, the Museum Of The Future is an incubator for ideas and a driver for innovation. The museum provides an opportunity for its visitors to enjoy interactive experiences with future technology. The structure itself is an engineering marvel featuring a facade ornate Arabic calligraphy.
SUPERCAR AMBULANCES
Supercars are designed to offer thrill and adventure, but what if we told you they can also be used to save lives? The Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services added fast-moving vehicles like Land Rover, Range Rover, Nissan GT-R and Chevrolet Corvette to their fleet in 2019. Interestingly, Range Rovers are a dedicated women-only ambulance service.
What’s important to note is that these ambulances don’t carry critically ill patients. They are specifically designed to deal with accidents or drowning incidents.
Two paramedics drive to the site of the accident using vehicles equipped with oxygen cylinders and cardiopulmonary resuscitation equipment. These ambulance supercars have cut down the emergency response time from four to eight minutes – this short duration can make all the difference between life and death.
That isn’t all. The Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) has also included four Polaris sports bikes that can travel at 200 km per hour. All bikes come with an oxygen cylinder, a defibrillator and a stabilisation bed. Until an ambulance arrives and the patient can be transferred to the hospital, the paramedic who arrives on the bike can provide vital support and first aid.
The next time you go to any of the tourist spots in Dubai, look out for these super ambulances – another fascinating addition to the things you will see only in Dubai.
FLYING RESCUERS
“Modern problems require modern solutions.”
The authorities in Dubai have followed this recommendation and made excellent use of modern technology to serve residents. The latest addition to impressive things you’ll find in Dubai is the world’s first life-saving drone.
The UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) known as Flying Rescuer is programmed to help troubled beachgoers by dropping lifebuoys. This can buy precious time before emergency services arrive with further help. Each drone flies with four lifebuoys. Furthermore, the drones can carry a raft which inflates the moment it hits the ocean.
The Flying Rescuers can be operated manually and they can also fly to a predefined location using an automatic pathway. The drone is equipped with twin cameras, one for live transmission and the other to facilitate the launch of the buoys in the specified area.
FLOATING VILLAS AND HOTELS
Dubai is famous for its skyscrapers – it is home to the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa. However, you can also view and potentially spend time at floating hotels or villas. How cool would this experience be? You look out from your window and enjoy scenic views of the beach. However, this time, you are figuratively standing on the waves. This isn’t an experience you can buy anywhere else.
HEART-SHAPED LAKE
Where to take that special someone on that special day? A question on the minds of many…but Dubai has the perfect solution. Is there a better place to visit on Valentine’s Day than Dubai’s Love Lake in Al Qudra? A man-made lake in the form of two gigantic hearts knotted together, closely accompanied by the word “love” spelled out with trees, is a true expression of that most special of emotions. Amongst the things you only see in Dubai, this one really stands out.
A MELTING POT OF CULTURES
Dubai is known for its lavish and luxurious experiences but one thing you will only see in Dubai is residents of different communities and cultures uniting as one.
According to the UAE Government official stats, there are more than 200 nationalities living and working in the country. You can find a place of worship for every religion, dotted across the city. There is no segregation based on culture or cast. Men and women have equal opportunities. Also, a hearty percentage of Dubai’s population are multilingual, so making friends is easy in multicultural Dubai.
WORLD’S HIGHEST TENNIS COURT
Who can forget the day Andre Agassi and Roger Federer played tennis at the world’s highest tennis court at Burj Al Arab? The patch of green is really a helipad but in true Dubai-style innovation, the management at Burj Al Arab thought to convert it into a make-shift tennis court.
Is it safe playing there? Well, it’s practically impossible to fall off the court chasing a flashy backhand. Not to mention, the safety arrangements are foolproof. However, often a well-timed serve can ace down the 1,000-foot building, maybe catching the eyes of predatory birds. The world’s highest tennis court is one of the many things you only see in Dubai.
Isn’t it amazing how many unique things are there in this ever-evolving city? There are also some incredible facts about Dubai not many residents would be aware of. But as we all know, it doesn’t stop there.
You can often see people from XDubai embark on crazy adventures and stunts in the city including zip-lining across the bustling metropolis of Dubai Marina. Alongside the unique experiences in Dubai, there are many unbelievable real estate projects in the city. We also shouldn’t forget about the city’s famed love for its malls.
While that concludes our list of top things you can only see and do in Dubai, the best is always yet to come in this city. In the near future, we can expect to live in a Jetsons-like future of unbelievable conveniences and innovation. One can compare it to the history of Dubai and appreciate how things have changed in a relatively short period.
With a commitment to constant innovation, there is a lot of other exciting attractions coming soon to this superlative city. If you’d like to know more about them, make sure to stay tuned to MyBayut, the UAE’s top real estate blog.
