It’s that time of the year again, when we look back on the previous year and start to mull over our New Year’s resolutions. And let’s be honest, most people start the new year with the best intentions, but no goal. Real estate agents may make vague resolutions such as, ‘I will sell more this year’ or ‘I will network more’. And while the intent is good, there is no actual goal set, and thus no steps to achieving goals. Luckily, Bayut today explore the steps to setting goals for real estate agents – and achieving them! Wondering how to set goals and achieve them? Start with a plan on paper. Take some time to think about the goals in real estate that are important to you. Ask yourself, where do you want to see yourself? Now, work backward to figure out the steps to achieve your goals. Make 2019 your year to be intensely goal-oriented. 7 steps to set goals in real estate and achieve them
Step 1: Decide exactly what you want. That’s the first step to setting goals for real estate agents. Make it specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. Boom. You’ve just set yourself a SMART goal.
Step 2: Put your goal into writing. A shocking statistic is that only 3% of adults have written goals. Still aren’t convinced? Adults with written goals, earn, on average ten times as much as people without written goals. It’s an old adage but it bears repeating, ‘You can’t hit a target if you can’t see it’. This applies to goal setting for real estate agents, as well.
Step 3: Set a deadline for your goal. Decide exactly when you want to achieve it. Break down your it down into year, months, weeks and days. Your daily goals are your action plans and how you get results.
Step 4: The next action in your roadmap to success is to list out everything you can do to achieve your goal. Now hold off and give it a couple of days. Revisit your list and write down your new ideas.
Step 5: Sequence your list. Order your list, starting with what you have to do first to achieve your goal. Then second, third and down the line. Focus on the actions that will generate success. Congratulations! You now have a plan and have moved ahead of 97% of working adults.
Step 6: Now come the steps to achieve your goals. And that’s to action your plan. Start with something – anything – but take action and get going. The first step to achieving your goal is often the hardest, so it’s okay to start small. Take a baby step, if you will.
Step 7: Do something every day that moves you towards your goal. Take a look at step three above again. Achieving SMART goals for real estate agents involves you doing something – small or large – 365 days a year that moves you closer to that goal.
HOW TO GET STARTED WITH GOAL SETTING FOR REAL ESTATE AGENTS IN 2019?
It’s simple. On a piece of paper, write down ‘Goals’ and today’s date at the top. Now, write down at least five goals you would like to accomplish in 2019. Write them down according to the three Ps: personal, positive, present tense and start with ‘I’. A good example would be, ‘I earn this specific amount of commission by 31 December 2019’. Another goal could be, ‘I am a non-smoker’. Writing down your goals in the present tense makes them more relatable. The present tense allows our subconscious mind to start working on it.
Remember, few adults write down their goals, but most successful people do. Set the goals in real estate you want to achieve and when you want to accomplish them (written down and placed in a spot where you can see them). You’ll instantly begin to focus and generate ideas that will help you move towards your goals.
