STILL NOT READY FOR VALENTINE’S? GET ROMANTIC WITH BAYUT
As Valentine’s Day 2017 is just around the corner (five days, to be exact), MyBayut brings you five suggestions for creating some unforgettable Valentine’s Day memories in Dubai. From a trip to the cinema or the glamorous Dubai Opera to a romantic getaway to the City of Light, arrange a memorable evening for your partner, whether your budget is modest or on the grand scale.
THEATRE:
THERE’S NO STORY LIKE THE ‘WESTSIDE STORY’
‘Westside Story’ is a musical loosely based on one of the greatest plays of all time, Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare. The lyrics were written by the Academy Award winner Steven Sondheim, one of the most accomplished musical theatre maestros in the world.
In short, ‘Westside Story’ is about the conflict between two street gangs, one American and the other from Puerto Rico, with a beautiful, tragic love story at its core. The performance at Dubai Opera will feature world-famous songs, a fantastic all-singing-all-dancing cast and gorgeous costumes.
The performance will run on the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and the 18th, so plenty of options for you to book the big date night. You better get moving on the tickets, though!
MUSIC:
SURPRISE THEM WITH TICKETS TO MARIAH CAREY
On 22nd-24th February, Dubai Media City Amphitheatre will be the venue of another fantastic Dubai Jazz festival. It is sposnored by Emirates Airline so you know that it will be class all the way.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the main act at the festival, Maria Carey, she’s had the longest running No. 1 hit in the history of the American Billboard Hot 100 chart. She’s also one of the highest selling female recording artists of all time and a five-time Grammy winner.
Alternatively, you can book tickets to see the King of Latin Pop himself, Enrique Iglesias. And for those of you who belong to the slightly senior generations, Tom Jones is also in the line-up.
CINEMA:
TAKE THEM TO LA LA LAND, THEY WON’T WANT TO LEAVE
The very charismatic Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone star in this phenomenal and highly successful throwback to the Golden Age of Hollywood and the 1950s musical. He is a jazz pianist and she is a struggling actress, both trying to make it big in Los Angeles. They sing, they dance, they fall in love. But could their relationship get in the way of their professional dreams?
La La Land is great Valentine’s Day fun, but it also happens to offer food for thought. If you’re not convinced you yet, we’ll just say this – the film has been nominated for FOURTEEN Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Song.
Just make sure you follow the movie with a nice dinner afterwards.
TRAVEL:
INDULGE IN A ROMANTIC GETAWAY TO THE MOST ROMANTIC CITY IN THE WORLD, PARIS
Yes, Valentine’s Day 2017 falls on a Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pull off a romantic getaway the weekend after, February 16th-18th. That is, if your budget allows you.
If you really want to impress your loved one, take them to the top of the Eiffel Tower and show them one of the most breath-taking and romantic views in the world. While you’re there, you can squeeze in is a tour of the Louvre and the Tuileries Garden. Finally, there is a bridge in Paris on the river Seine, called Pont Concorde, where you can surprise your partner by playing their favourite song via Bluetooth, just as you’re walking underneath.
EATING OUT:
MAKE IT ORIGINAL WITH JUST THE TWO OF YOU
Restaurants across the UAE will offer perfectly enjoyable romantic meals, featuring live music and glorious meals under candlelight, but we suggest you make your Valentine’s Day a little more memorable. Beach spots across Dubai offer views of some of the world’s most stunning architecture and the soft February breeze is perfect for a surprise dinner by the sea. You can pull off a DIY or book a service that will set this up for you with a pergola (as seen in the above picture). Alternatively, you can pre-book the ‘Sky Table’ at Sofitel Downtown. This includes a dinner for two in a private room on the 30th floor with a direct view of the Burj Khalifa. Just the two of you, a French dining experience and the world’s tallest building glistening at night– it doesn’t get more romantic than that!
