According to the Sphere Entertainment Co., the Abu Dhabi Sphere will “echo the scale” of the Sphere in Las Vegas – which is 112 metres high with capacity for 20,000 spectators. The Las Vegas flagship version of the dome, officially named “Sphere” (not “the Sphere”), opened to worldwide acclaim in September 2023 at a reported cost of approximately $2 billion (USD).
While the architectural firm for the new development in Abu Dhabi has not yet been publicly announced, Populous, renowned for designing the Las Vegas Sphere and a similar planned venue in London, represent a likely contender.
