Are you ready to test your limits? Spartan World Champion is your chance to prove your fitness, endurance and fighting spirit. Thrill seekers from all segments of society can compete in four open races from 2nd to 4th of December 2022 while kids go head to head in the junior competition. Top-tier Spartans who qualify via races throughout the season will battle it out for glory at the new course at Al Wathba Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa.

ALL ABOUT THE SPARTAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2022
The inaugural event held in Liwa last year was a huge success. Spartan World Championship Abu Dhabi 2022 organised by Spartan, a global leader in endurance sports and extreme wellness brand, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), is likely to be bigger and better.
The event will be held across the National Day weekend, so expect a spectacular competition.
Participants are divided into three categories: Elite, Age Group and Open Heat Racer. At the end of it all, Spartan World Championship winners will collectively take home $125k in prize money.
Elite Spartans will compete in the following races.
- Men’s and women’s individual World Championship Super on 3rd December
- Age Group World Championship Beast and Open Beast on 3rd December
- Team World Championship Super on 4th December
- Open Team Super on 4th December
- Open Super on 4th December
- Open Sprint on 4th December
- Kids Open on 4th December
Registration for the following races is open for all.
- Sprint (5k; 20 obstacles)
- Super (10k; 25 obstacles)
- Beast (21k; 30 obstacles)
- Team Relay Super (10k; 25 obstacles)
- Kids’ Race on a 1-3km course

Joe De Sena, Spartan Founder and CEO, stated that the people in the UAE would have an amazing experience at the event.
“The Spartan World Championship weekend is the perfect opportunity for the general public in the UAE to get a taste of what Spartan has to offer. They will be able to see the world’s best athletes in action in the pinnacle race of the OCR season – and then take on the course themselves. With four different categories on offer, as well as an event for kids, the UAE community will be able to come together to unlock their physical and mental potential while having an amazing experience that is sure to change the way they view themselves,” he opined.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, the General Secretary at ADSC highlighted that such events are in line with the vision of the government of a happier and healthier country.
“This year’s event further emphasises the efforts being made in the emirate to build and nurture a culture of sport and exercise, in line with Abu Dhabi Government’s vision to cultivate healthier and happier lifestyles. To be staged in Abu Dhabi for the second time in succession, the World Spartan Championship is highlighted to build and promote a sustainable sporting culture among the local community as well as to draw participation both internationally and from the region,” he said.

WHAT DOES A SPARTAN RACE ENTAIL?
Those participating in a Spartan race have to overcome a number of obstacles of various difficulties. The length of the race can also vary, typically starting with a 3-mile race and going up to a marathon.
WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF THE SPARTAN RACE?
Spartan was founded by De Sena. It was a spin-off of the Death Race, a more manageable event for a larger segment of society. The first race was held in 2010 in the USA. Since then, the sport has grown in popularity tremendously and more than 30 countries now have Spartan franchises.
