Enjoy the adventure of a lifetime at Skydive Dubai
Dubai offers the most extravagant experiences in the world — those that take you to the sky, quite literally. Everything in this city is larger than life, from the tallest skyscraper to a floating dinner table in the air. Another fantastic experience for adrenaline junkies is skydiving. Emotions run wild as you fly over the city’s skyline, making it an adventure of a lifetime. If you want to skydive in Dubai and are unsure what to expect, this handy guide has all the information. Here’s all that you need to know about Skydive Dubai UAE.
ABOUT SKYDIVE DUBAI UAE
Launched in 2010 by His Excellency Nasser Al Neyadi, Skydive Dubai is now a premier skydiving location in the world. Currently, there are two dropzones: Palm DZ, located within the emirate and Desert DZ, located around 35 km outside Dubai. The latter is the place to go if you want to free fall at 120 miles per hour.
At Skydive, you can choose from two experiences. The Tandem Skydive is the quickest and most popular way to skydive while securely attached to a harness. An experienced instructor will parachute down with you. The second option is the solo skydiving course. This includes a training programme at Desert Campus.
If you don’t want to go skydiving but still feel like flying, you can opt for Skyhub Gyrocopter. Let’s find out all about these three different and equally thrilling experiences.
TYPES OF SKYDIVING
INDOOR SKYDIVING
If you want to try skydiving in a safe environment, you can try indoor skydiving. While, Skydive Dubai UAE does not offer this type of skydiving, you can sign up for it at iFly Dubai.
TANDEM SKYDIVE IN DUBAI
First, let’s look at the Tandem skydiving experience and what it has for thrill-seekers.
Wonder what’s the quickest way to check off skydiving from your list? Of course, that’s Tandem Skydive! The entire process takes about three hours. And the best part is that you get photos and a professionally edited video of your skydiving in Dubai experience! Your three-hour journey is divided into four crucial steps.
REGISTRATION & TRAINING
When you arrive at the venue, you must register and fill out the necessary waiver forms during the check-in time. This is followed by a weight check to calculate your BMI.
Once the registration process is complete, you will be assigned a tandem instructor and camera flyer to accompany you during your experience. The instructor gives a safety briefing and shows you the best body position for free fall. The next step is strapping on the harness.
THE FLIGHT
After the initial registration and briefing, staff will escort you to the boarding area, where you will receive a pre-boarding safety check. Once the plane you board rises to 13,000 feet (4,000 m), you can enjoy the breathtaking views of Palm Jumeirah and the skyline. The total time to reach the jumping altitude is approximately 20 minutes.
THE JUMP
Your tandem skydiving instructor gives a final check, and that’s when the real deal begins. You and your instructor will exit the plane and free fall for nearly 60 seconds, along with your camera flyer. Once you reach 6,000 ft., you’ll have a 4-5 minute parachute ride, where you can fly past the city skyline like a falcon!
POST LANDING
After landing, the cameraman will interview you to record your reaction after the adrenaline-filled fall. You will then be escorted back to the main building, where you can relax at the café while waiting for your photos and video. Don’t forget to visit the merchandise store to buy T-shirts and other souvenirs.
The assigned camera flyer will interview you regularly throughout the journey. So, keep smiling, even when you jump off the plane mid-air!
SOLO SKYDIVING
Skydive offers licenced skydivers the opportunity to freefall at both dropzones in Dubai.
To skydive at the Palm Dropzone, you must have a USPA D-licence or its equivalent) with a minimum of 1,000 logged skydives. Certified skydivers who have already skydived at the Palm dropzone before 2018 must hold a USPA D-Licence or its equivalent, plus a minimum of 800 logged skydives.
SKYHUB GYROCOPTER
You can also take a 20-minute Gyrocopter Introductory flight at the Palm Dropzone. The unique two-seater plane will fly above well-known Dubai attractions, including Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis The Palm, World Islands and Ain Dubai. The 20-minute flight will cost you AED 1,199.
SKYDIVING SCHOOLS IN DUBAI
Skydive Dubai’s Desert Dropzone is one of the largest skydiving schools in the world. It offers thrill-seekers the opportunity to learn how to be a solo skydiver with the AFF (Accelerated Freefall) Course.
New solo skydivers can get the ‘USPA A licence’, an internationally recognised certification that permits holders to jump at designated drop zones worldwide. The school also offers advanced coaching courses for experienced skydivers who want to jump at any of the two drop zones.
AFF COURSE IN DUBAI
To be a solo skydiver, complete the AFF (Accelerated Freefall) Course. It consists of a ground school (theory), a minimum of seven skydives and 15 minutes of tunnel time. The skydiving Dubai price for the AFF Course starts from AED 1,400 for Ground School at the Desert Dropzone.
The course starts with ground school training, where skydivers learn to use the equipment. They become familiar with flight parachute deployment and control techniques and landing safety procedures. You must also complete a fixed set of manoeuvres to progress to the next stage successfully.
After completing ground school, the next step is training at Inflight Dubai, which offers indoor skydiving in Dubai. Here, you will learn to fly and practice the freefall position for your first skydive. After completing this step successfully, you will be one of the AFF graduates, allowed to perform your first solo skydive.
If this is something you are interested in pursuing, here is the breakdown of the skydiving cost in Dubai for the AFF Skydiving course.
USPA A LICENCE
If you are a skydiver who has just completed the AFF course, the next step is getting the USPA A licence. For this, you will have to do the following.
- Complete a minimum of 25 skydives.
- Pass all the requirements on the A licence proficiency card
- Pass the written and oral A licence exam.
Once you’ve successfully passed these requirements, you can jump at drop zones worldwide without supervision and even jump with other licence holders. Skydiving Dubai price for annual USPA membership is AED 286.47.
