Looking for the perfect spot to get the ultimate instagram photo of you and your silhouette in the rain? The amazing Sharjah Rain Room is calling you! This hidden gem in the UAE’s culture capital is a lovely memory in waiting. Read on for all the details about the remarkable and enchanting Rain Room in Sharjah.
WHAT IS THE SHARJAH RAIN ROOM?
The Sharjah Rain Room is a permanent attraction in Al Mujarrah that was installed by the Sharjah Art Foundation. The controlled space mimics the experience of walking in the rain…but without getting wet! Opened in 2018, this rain room in the UAE has been wowing and delighting visitors ever since.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Sharjah Rain Room is a controlled space that uses 2,500 litres of self-cleaning recycled water to replicate rainfall indoors. Visitors are able to walk through this controlled space without getting wet thanks to 3D tracking cameras and high-tech sensors, which stop the showers as soon a person walks through the exhibit.
Now that we know what this place is and how it works, let’s talk a bit about what the experience is like when you visit the Rain Room.
THE EXPERIENCE: WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU VISIT?
Every visit to this attraction is based on time slots. With each Sharjah Rain Room booking, you get a 15-minute slot to explore the installation and take pictures.
Once you’re called in for your slot at the Sharjah Rain Room, a volunteer will brief you about the room itself and demonstrate the pace you will need to walk through the exhibit. If you arrive earlier than your allotted slot, you can dine at the snack bar near the reception area in the Sharjah Rain Room building.
Once you’re briefed, you get a total of 10 minutes to explore the room and get the shots you want. The room is perfectly lit to give you that silhouette effect of standing in the rain. We recommend coming in a pair or with a group of friends, to capture the best possible shots.
The entire experience is a short one but the end result is definitely worth it.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN VISITING THE RAIN ROOM
- Visitors must walk slowly through the Rain Room. The sensors won’t be able to catch any sudden movements. If you don’t want to get wet, you will need to walk very carefully and slowly to give the senors time to scan your movement.
- There is a chance for you to get slightly wet, so make sure to keep phones and any other electronic devices away if you don’t want to risk it.
- Any dark, shiny or reflective clothing can affect the senors in the room.
- Avoid wearing high heels or pointed shoes when visiting the rain room as it can be hazardous.
- Filming for music videos, photoshoots and other promotional material is strictly prohibited.
