Sharjah is known for its rich heritage and culture and is also one of the safest places to live in the UAE. The Sharjah Police services take centre stage in maintaining law and order in this beautiful emirate. From overseeing traffic to managing public safety, the Sharjah Police Force plays a pivotal role in offering a peaceful environment for everyone. Let’s learn more about the Sharjah Police Stations and their services.
Overview and History of Sharjah Police
Established in 1967 by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Sharjah Police began as a local security force. Initially directed by the Sharjah ruler and supervised by a general security chief, it was led by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi and Col. Abdullah Juma Al Saree, with training assistance from Mr. Burner of the Oman British Coast.
With the formation of the UAE in 1971, the Sharjah Police came under the newly established Ministry of Interior, consolidating all security forces in Sharjah under the federal government. In 1995, the force underwent a significant upgrade approved by the cabinet. This transformed Sharjah Police into a general directorate, introducing nine specialised departments.
Today, the General Directorate of Sharjah Police encompasses various departments and units, including an East Region Police Directorate covering areas like Khor Fakkan, Kalba and Diba Al Hisn.
