All about road closures in Dubai on New Year’s Eve 2024
Dubai is gearing up for the big finale of 2024! Hundreds and thousands of people are expected to arrive in Downtown Dubai for the NYE celebrations. Many of the city’s malls, leisure venues and eateries are going all out to ensure that 2024 gets off to a fantastic start.
Like every year, road closures have been planned in Downtown Dubai as part of Emaar NYE 2024, featuring the highly anticipated fireworks at Burj Khalifa as the centrepiece. Dubai RTA has released the list of planned road closures in Dubai for New Year’s Eve 2024.
ROAD CLOSURES IN DUBAI FOR NEW YEAR’S 2023-24
Dubai New Year’s Eve celebrations are held at multiple destinations in the emirate, with the most spectacular show hosted at the Burj Khalifa.
The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai (RTA) has announced road closures to manage the crowds during New Year’s Eve celebrations in the emirate.
These are the details of the Dubai road closures on New Year’s Eve 2024 in and around Downtown Dubai:
- Al Sayel Street (closes at 04:00 pm)
- Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard (closes at 04:00 pm)
- Burj Khalifa Street (closes at 04:00 pm)
- The Financial Centre Street lower deck (closes at 04:00 pm)
- Al Mustaqbal Street (closes at 04:00 pm)
- Al Sukook Street (closes at 08:00 pm)
- Financial Centre Street upper deck (closes at 09:00 pm)
- If you want to spend NYE at Dubai Mall and Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, you should reach the area earlier.
- Guests with bookings at eateries or hotels in the closed areas must arrive beforehand.
- Road closures will likely end on 1st January (Monday) between 01:00 am and 02:00 am. The RTA and Dubai Police will decide the exact time after considering the situation.
- Visitors can park at Dubai Mall, but the mall parking will close once it is full. No one will be allowed entry during this time.
It is important to note that all vehicles parked at restaurants, hotels and residences in Downtown Dubai and Dubai Mall will only be allowed to leave once the closure is lifted.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES DURING NEW YEAR’S EVE
Public transport in Dubai will be available during the celebrations as per the updated schedule. Here are the details for the public transport schedule for 2024 NYE in Dubai.
- Those travelling via Dubai Metro should remember that the Burj Khalifa/ Dubai Mall Metro Station may close at 05:00 pm or earlier on 31st December 2023. Visitors can expect it to close after the mall has reached full capacity.
- The rest of the Metro’s Green and Red line network will operate continuously for 40 hours from 08:00 am on 31st December 2023.
- Dubai Tram will also operate for 40 hours from 09:00 am on New Year’s Eve.
- If you are celebrating on the Palm, you can park at Palm Gateway Station and take the Palm Monorail to the island for the festivities.
- The monorail will be open from 09:00 am on 31st December 31st 2023, until 03:00 am on 1st January 1st 2024. Also connected to this station is the Dubai Tram.
- RTA has not announced road closures for those planning to celebrate at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) and Dubai Marina. However, it is advised to use public transport like a tram or metro to reach your destination quickly.
OTHER THINGS TO REMEMBER
The timing of all Metro Link Bus Services at Centrepoint, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta, Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station, Abu Hail and Etisalat Metro Station will be synchronised with the metro timetables.
The Dubai government had advised people to plan their visits well in advance to avoid delays or other inconveniences due to road closures in Dubai for New Year’s Eve.
The Burj Khalifa NYE show is an excellent opportunity for those who want to enjoy the night from an exclusive spot. The tickets were priced at AED 300 for adults and AED 150 for kids. Sadly, all tickets for Emaar NYE 2024 at Burj Park and Burj Khalifa fireworks have been sold out!
If you want to enjoy the spectacular fireworks in Dubai for free, you can head to Downtown Dubai. But please note that the entry is permitted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
There may also be free shuttle bus services from Nakheel Mall available from 08:00 pm to 03:00 am if you want to watch the dazzling show on Palm Jumeirah.
To ensure the safety of visitors, Dubai Police will deploy 10,000 officers, 950 Civil Defence officers and 178 ambulances. A new feature added this year to ensure seamless celebrations is support tents. The 19 tents will be equipped to handle lost and found reports. They will be located in the following areas:
- Jumeirah
- Al Mamzar
- Al Seef Road
- Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard
- The Kite Beach
- JBR
- Ain Dubai
- The Pointe, Palm Jumeirah
The Dubai Police will set up temporary toilets and food trucks to improve the visitors’ experience.

WILL TAXI BE AVAILABLE DURING ROAD CLOSURE?
Unfortunately, taxis will not be able to access Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard after the road closure is implemented.
WILL PEDESTRIANS BE ABLE TO ACCESS SHEIKH MOHAMMED BIN RASHID BOULEVARD DURING THE NYE ROAD CLOSURE?
RTA has announced five access points across Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard for pedestrians to access the area during Dubai road closures on New Year’s Eve 2024. These points are:
- Gate 1: Behind Downtown Command Centre
- Gate 2: Behind Burj Vista
- Gate 3: Near Emaar Square, adjacent to Boulevard Plaza Building
- Gate 4: Opposite Address Boulevard
- Gate 5: Opposite Address Downtown
