Precautionary Quarantine rules in the UAE

Precautionary quarantine rules for those travelling abroad from UAE

People can travel to other countries without testing for COVID-19 unless mandated by the country they are travelling to. The travellers, however, have to sign a written form stating that they are not suffering from any COVID-19 symptoms and other similar health conditions. The form also requires travellers to accept that they will follow the UAE quarantine rules set by the authorities upon return. According to this agreement form, travellers cannot travel to other places that they have not applied for.

Precautionary quarantine rules for those travelling to the UAE

Passengers arriving in the UAE have to take the COVID-19 RT-PCR test before 48 to 72 hours of arrival. The National Crisis & Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) advises everyone arriving in the UAE to quarantine for at least 10 days. Every individual who is quarantining needs to take care of themselves and monitor their health during this time. They also need to download the ALHOSN app.

Quarantine rules for travelling to Dubai

Residents and tourists arriving in Dubai have to follow the same rules. However, passengers at the Dubai airport will have to go through a nasal swab test for ruling out COVID-19. Those whose test comes out negative can end the quarantine while those with a positive result have to complete the home quarantine of 14 days or more until you test negative. Tourists in Dubai will also need to download the COVID-19 DXB app and activate it.

Travellers can choose to quarantine at a private location and stay at their home or at a hotel. However, those who test positive but live in a shared accommodation will be moved to either a quarantine facility provided by the government or a hotel hospital.

UAE citizens are exempt from testing at the port of departure, however they will still be tested o arrival.

Quarantine rules for travelling to Abu Dhabi

Similar to the rules for Dubai, rules for entering Abu Dhabi also include a negative PCR test which was taken a maximum of 48 hours before arrival. The authorities have also announced the following new quarantine rules in Abu Dhabi. These latest quarantine rules in Abu Dhabi also apply to all vaccinated UAE citizens and residents of the emirate who received their second vaccine dose at least 28 days earlier. This should also be shown on the Alhosn app.

• All travellers who are arriving from the green list of countries, and are vaccinated must also take a PCR test on the sixth day since arrival. After this test is negative, there is no need to quarantine.
• If you are a vaccinated traveller arriving from countries that are NOT on the Abu Dhabi green list, you must take a PCR test on arrival, quarantine for 5 days and take another PCR test on Day 4.
• If you are a non-vaccinated citizen or resident of Abu Dhabi arriving from any of the countries on the green list, you must take a PCR test on arrival without the need to quarantine, followed by PCR tests on Day 6 and Day 12.
• If you are a non-vaccinated citizen or resident arriving from other countries, you must take a PCR test on arrival, quarantine for 10 days and take another PCR test on Day 8 as per the Abu Dhabi travel rules.

Quarantine rules for Sharjah

Similar to the rules outlined for both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Sharjah too requires all arriving passengers to produce a negative PCR test which was taken a maximum of 96 hours prior to arrival. There is also an additional PCR test taken on arrival If the results to this test are negative, no further quarantine is required. However if you test positive, you have to isolate for at least 14 days after which you need to have a negative PCR test.

Quarantine violation fine in the UAE

Anyone who violates home quarantine rules in the UAE will become liable to pay an AED 50,000 fine. This legal punishment comes under Resolution No. 38 of 2020.
