Like all other emirates of the UAE, Dubai offers pension and retirement benefits to eligible Emirati citizens. The Dubai Government has a dedicated section to cater to all pension and social security-related activities — the Dubai Government Human Resource Department (DGHR). This pension authority of Dubai coordinates with the UAE’s General Authority for Pensions and Social Security (GPSSA) to make the pension process transparent and convenient for local workers in both the private and public sector.

The Pension and Social Security Authority of DGHR helps employees of the Dubai government with their pension and social security concerns. Here is a list of key areas the department specialises in:
- Registration of government agencies with the General Authority for Pensions and Social Security (GPSSA)

- Co-ordinating with the GPSSA to finalise the salary for insured employees with the subscription account while keeping the governments’ directives in mind
- Co-ordinating with GPSSA to provide the data of insured and retired government employees
- Catering to requests to add the employees’ previous service record in government agencies. This process includes verification of all the relevant documents and the cost calculation of adding and following it up with the GPSSA
- Working on requests for legal service from government agencies, while verifying related laws for the concern and following up with the GPSSA
- Requests for adding pensionable periods and following it up with the GPSSA
- Providing GPSSA with employees whose service period has ended, after reviewing and verifying the documents and other factors. They also ensure that employees are duly paid their rightful pension payments
- Working to make the pension legislation more effective and beneficial for Dubai citizens and propose necessary amendments regarding pension and social security laws to GPSSA through the Department of Legal Affairs
- Processing and resolving issues related to monthly payments and other benefits for insured employees.
These are the major tasks falling under DGHR’s Department of Pension and Social Security. The department also prepares reports related to post-retirement programmes and services in Dubai.
