NATURE RESERVES IN DUBAI

JEBEL ALI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most frequently visited nature reserves in the UAE. In 2018, Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary was added to the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance making it a place of global significance. The sanctuary is also one of the protected wetlands in the UAE. It is considered an Ecologically or Biologically Significant Marine Area (EBSA).
Home to unique marine creatures as well as other fauna and flora, Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary provides a glimpse into the local habitat. Thirty-four species of coral have been recorded in Ghantoot, out of which around 40% are endangered. The coral reef provides a high-relief ‘hard bottom’ home to various fish. The sandy beaches at Ghantoot are also a breeding ground for hawksbill turtles. The sanctuary is also home to Mangrove forest Dubai, a lush green haven that boasts 15 km of mangroves and 6 km of wetlands.
RAS AL KHOR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary is a natural wetland reserve in Dubai. Commonly known by its acronym RAKWS, the wetland is an ecological sanctuary with mangroves, bird species, mammals, crustaceans and reptiles.
The sanctuary protects numerous species of flora and fauna. This biodiverse region has a balanced ecosystem that includes several native wildlife species and plants, alongside visiting migrant species.
Visitors can spot Ferruginous ducks, pink-beaked flamingos, common kingfishers, the Eurasian teal duck and Agama lizards. You can also catch a glimpse of reef herons, sandpipers, kingfisher and black-tailed godwit.

AL MARMOOM DESERT CONSERVATION RESERVE

AL WATHBA WETLAND RESERVE
Al Wathba Wetland Reserve is one of the most-visited nature reserves and sanctuaries in the UAE. Located a 45-minute drive from Abu Dhabi’s main city centre, this destination in Al Wathba is home to numerous endangered birds and wildlife species.
The region was initially recognised as sabkhas or coastal salt flats, but now it features numerous natural and artificial lakes. MANGROVE NATIONAL PARK

The Qasr Al Sarab protected area is home to more than 30 species of birds and reptiles. You can also catch a glimpse of rare mammal species such as the Arabian Oryx. However, the area is only accessible to guests at the Qasr Al Sarab by Anantara.
JEBEL HAFIT NATURAL PARK
Jebel Hafit is the highest peak in Abu Dhabi and ranked second highest in all of the UAE. The majestic mountain is home to Jebel Hafit Natural Park where you can find some of the most endangered animal and plant species in the UAE.
Nature lovers will get to see more than 500 ancient burial tombs at the foothills of Jebel Hafit. These tombs date back 5,000 years, marking the start of the Bronze Age in the UAE.
