Where is the Mangrove National Park located?

The Mangrove National Park is located near the Anantara Eastern Mangroves hotel. Located near Abu Dhabi’s coastal area, the Abu Dhabi Mangrove National Park covers over 19 sq.km of protected coastal mangrove forests. The park is under the protection of the EAD (Environment Agency Abu Dhabi) and comprises of a whopping 75% of the total mangrove forested area in the United Arab Emirates.

Haven for nature lovers

The Mangrove National Park is a hub for tourists who prefer activities that bring them closer to nature. Home to around 60 species of birds, the national park is also a thriving habitat for turtles, marine mammals, and a myriad of shellfish, fish and crabs. 

Some of the many animal species to look out for are the Western reef heron, greater flamingo, and the mottled crab. Among these, the western reef heron and greater flamingo can easily be spotted during the breeding season. 

Mangrove National Park activities

The best way to experience the mangroves is to take advantage of the many tour operators nearby. The lush concentration of mangrove trees and the water surrounding is a hotspot for bird watchers, kayakers, paddle-boarders and other visitors looking for a bit of adventure. Keep in mind; the EAD only accepts visitors who book tours through accredited tour operators. This is all in a bid to protect the mangrove’s sensitive habitat.

Examples of operators that are allowed to offer tours in the area include Seahawk Water Sports, Noukhada, Al Mahara Diving and Belevari. The Al Mahara Diving centre, for example, is offering kayaking tours along the eastern mangroves for AED 160 for adults with the price slashed for kids at AED 105.
