Fast on its way to becoming the leading sustainable tourism destination, Dubai has taken concrete steps in continuing its eco-conscious approach to hospitality. As a result, you can now enjoy a luxurious, comfortable and sustainable stay at eco-friendly, green hotels in Dubai!
Go Green! Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp
In a push for sustainable tourism, Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) launched the Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp. This initiative rewards hotels that meet DET’s 19 sustainability standards. Aligned with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability, this program reinforces the city’s commitment to becoming a top eco-friendly travel destination.
The new stamp is designed to speed up efforts towards empowering the tourism sector to achieve its sustainability goals, aligning with UAE’s Net Zero 2050 initiative.
The Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp will validate a hotel’s commitment to sustainability and highlight its green practices. However, earning this distinction wouldn’t be easy. To become one of the top sustainable hotels in Dubai, the hotel must meet DET’s 19 Sustainability requirements, including energy and water efficiency, waste management programmes, staff education and engagement initiatives.
A team of industry experts will diligently oversee the accreditation process, ensuring transparency and upholding high standards. The stamp will feature a three-tier scheme with categories ranging from Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Eligibility Criteria for DST Stamp Awards
Although the government has not published all the 19 requirements needed to obtain the DST Stamp Award, here are some of the parameters that hotels need to fulfil before applying for the stamp:
