History of JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai
Managed by The Emirates Group, JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai was meant to be built as a single, 77-storey tower along the Sheikh Zayed Road; however, it’s structure and location evolved over time to incorporate stunning views of the sparkling Dubai Canal.
The second design of the hotel proposed a landmark tower that was 395m tall, which was further shortened by 40m for the final masterpiece. The basic structure of the towers was laid out in April 2010 but the building was completed in 2012. When the iconic hotel was completed, it took over the top spot as the World’s Tallest Hotel, a recognition which was previously reserved for Rose Rayhaan by Rotana.
JW Marquis held on to this impressive title until 2018 when the Gevora Hotel was completed in Dubai. Standing at 356 m, the hotel surpassed the record held by JW Marriott Marquis Hotel and gained the title of the tallest hotel in the world from the Guinness World Records.
