First time applicants
Applying for the first time? Follow these steps:
STEP ONE: EYE TEST
The test can also be conducted at any opticians in Abu Dhabi approved by the emirate’s traffic and licencing authority.
STEP TWO: OPEN A TRAFFIC FILE
You can use the Abu Dhabi Police mobile app or visit the TAMM website to open a traffic file. For this, you must have a passport size photo, Emirates ID and cleared eye test.
STEP THREE: TRAINING AT EDC
The Emirates Driving Company is a renowned driving school that is affiliated with the government.
This school offers different categories of courses for driving, depending on the skill and experience of students. The school offers both theory and practical courses that aim to provide students with all necessary knowledge about UAE traffic signs, traffic safety rules and more. The school also educate their students on the traffic penalties in Abu Dhabi.
Applicants have to attend the required theory and practical classes and subsequently pass the tests. Once the tests have been cleared, applicants can obtain their driving licence from the government authorised traffic authority in the emirate.
STEP FOUR: ROAD TEST CLEARANCE
You will be given a Certificate of Readiness, which you will need to present to book a practical road test with the EDC. All tests, including parking and driving, are initially conducted inside a rink for safety purposes.
Those who do not clear the practical test are required to undergo an additional seven hours of training.
Applicants who successfully complete their road tests will be required to take their certificates to the Drivers and Vehicles Licencing Departments. After completing the necessary requirements, they can collect their driving licence. You can also collect it at any Abu Dhabi Police Customer Happiness Centre.
The total cost of the training depends on how quickly applicants clear the test. Those with driving experience naturally pass through quickly, which reduces sessions and hence the overall price.
