Paradise in the Wadis: All about Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls
It goes without saying that Hatta is one of the most popular tourist spots in the UAE. This inland exclave of Dubai is surrounded by orange, rugged mountains. Even though the entire area is getting a facelift, the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls are one of the most talked-about upcoming ventures. Construction on the mega project has already begun. Let’s look at some of the aspects of the newly launched project.
Overview
In December 2022, His Excellency Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEQA), initiated the construction work for the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls.
According to DEWA, the project will cost AED 46 million. The waterfalls are constructed as a part of DEWA’s social and investment plans to make Hatta a prominent tourist destination.
This project is a part of the Hatta Master Development Plan. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved the five-year-long developmental project as a part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
What to Expect from the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls Project
Imagine a stunning waterfall gently snaking through the lush green grass and trees over rugged mountain terrain — this is what the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls by DEWA will look like when it’s completed. A hexagonal beehive, an homage to the popular Hatta honey, inspires the design.
Once the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls construction is completed, it will be home to four ardent oases linked with bridges over the water canal.
The slope of the Hatta dam will be used to create these majestic waterfalls with a waterway built right below the dam to collect water from the fall. This will be recycled and pumped back to the top of the dam. The water canal will lead to a gorgeous lake with a diverse biological ecosystem that balances and promotes natural aquatic life.
The waterfalls will also feature a kids’ play area intersecting the three oases. There will be an impressive selection of cafes and restaurants near the play area so parents or guardians can watch over the little ones while they munch and enjoy refreshing beverages. There will be several souvenir shops and stores that will sell the iconic Hatta honey.
