The availability of public transport in Palm Jumeirah has added to the appeal of this thriving neighbourhood. Want to know how to get about in this part of town? PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN PALM JUMEIRAH
Even though driving remains the most frequently used mode of transportation in Dubai, there are several other ways to get around the city. Over the last two decades, the public transport system in Dubai has improved a great deal.
Several modes of public transport are available to cater to the large number of tourists visiting Palm Jumeirah. You can keep track of many of these transportation options in Palm Jumeirah using the RTA apps.
PALM JUMEIRAH MONORAIL
The Palm Monorail is a straddle-type monorail that was opened on April 30, 2009, in Dubai. The monorail in Palm Jumeirah connects the Atlantis the Palm to the Gateway station at the entrance of The Palm. These trains are driverless and take about 10 minutes to travel from the Atlantis to the Gateway.
An extremely popular choice with tourists, the Palm monorail Dubai also offers people a chance to view the man-made island from a unique vantage point.
- Timings: The train runs every 15 mins starting 09:00 am till 09:45 pm (from the Palm Gateway Station) and till 10:00 pm (from The Atlantis Station), seven days a week.
- Price: A one-way Palm monorail ticket costs AED 10, while AED 15 will get you two-way access. It also offers a Day Pass With Unlimited Rides for AED 35 and a Family Pass for AED 99, which can be used by up to 8 people from the same family on one round trip from the Palm Gateway station to Atlantis Aquaventure. You can also opt for a season pass costing AED 130. It is valid for a month, and one can take six total round trips, one per day.
- Stations: Currently, five stations are servicing the Palm Monorail, which include Palm Gateway, Al Ittihad Park, Nakheel Mall, the Atlantis Aquaventure Station and the Pointe.
TRAM OR LIGHT RAIL
Launched in November 2014, the light rail or Dubai tram, was much awaited. It is part of the public transport in Palm Jumeirah, which connects the neighbourhood to various areas, including Al Sufouh street, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence. Although it does not cover the entire island, it is connected to the Palm Monorail and the Dubai Metro.
There’s even a footbridge between the Palm Jumeirah Tram Station and the Gateway Station. The Dubai Tram network connects with Dubai Metro at JLT Tram Station and the Dubai Marina Tram Station. There are 11 stations the Dubai Tram network currently covers.
- Timings: It runs from 06:30 am till 01:00 am from Saturday to Thursday. On the other hand, its timings are 09:00 am till 01:00 am on Friday. Travellers don’t have to wait long as the trams arrive every 6 to 8 minutes.
- Price: People can pay for Dubai tram tickets with their Nol cards. For AED 3, you can travel on Dubai Tram, and AED 4 is the ticket price for Red Nol tickets. The gold class ticket is priced at AED 6.
BUS SERVICE
Nakheel provides free shuttle bus services across Palm Jumeirah and neighbouring areas for quick transport to The Pointe and Nakheel Mall. Residents and tourists get complimentary rides to some of the most popular attractions on the island. With multiple daily services from dozens of hotels and residences on Palm Jumeirah, you can rely on a bus for your transportation needs.
- Timings: The service runs three times daily on weekdays from 10:00 am to 08:30 pm. On the other hand, the timings for the weekend are 07:30 am till 10:00 pm.
- Locations: Some of the hotels covered by the bus service include Sofitel Dubai, Royal Central Hotel, Waldorf Astoria and Kempinski the Palm. As for the residences, you can take the bus from Oceana Residences, Shoreline Apartments, Palm Views East, Tiara Residences and more.
