All about Fawri – How to get your Emirates ID in 24 hours
The Emirates ID is an identity card issued by the UAE government to its citizens and residents. It is mandatory for both UAE citizens and residents to register for an Emirates ID and carry it with them at all times.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) provides a service called ‘Fawri’ to speed up the process of getting an Emirates ID. The innovative system allows individuals to obtain the card within 24 hours of application. Let’s dive into the essentials of this service and how you can access it.
What is FAWRI?
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) offers an urgent service to obtain the Emirates ID within 24 hours. The popular service is known as ‘Fawri’ – which means ‘speedy’ in Arabic – and is available with an additional urgent service fee added to the regular fee of getting an Emirates ID.
UAE Citizens and GCC Nationals (officially) residing in the UAE can use Fawri for:
- First-time registration for Emirates ID
- Renewal of expired cards
- Lost or damaged cards
Non-GCC Nationals who are existing UAE residents can use the Fawri service to replace their lost or damaged Emirates IDs. Registration for new Emirates IDs and renewals require obtaining a UAE residence visa, which is a separate process.
How to access the Fawri service?
To obtain your Emirates ID using the Fawri service, you should visit one of the Customer Happiness Centres in person. You’ll find ICP Customer Happiness Centres in the following locations:
- Abu Dhabi: Al Jazeera and Khalifa City

After you’ve submitted your documents, you will receive an SMS from ICP about the status of your application and the expected delivery date.

In most cases, an Emirates ID card will be issued within 48 hours of application submission. With Fawri Emirates ID, you’ll receive the card within 24 hours of application.
