SUSTAINABILITY
Etihad Airways has undertaken multiple initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint and set ambiguous goals for the future.
NET ZERO CARBON EMISSIONS BY 2050
The airline aims to achieve net zero emissions by the year 2050. That is the long term goal while in the short term, they have pledged to make a cut of 20% emissions intensity by 2025 and net emissions by 50% in 2035.
The Airbus A350 has been introduced which is lighter, greener, smarter and quieter plane than any other generation of Airbus aircraft.
PAPER(LESS) PLANES AND NO WASTE
In comparison to previous years, by 2022 the airline had reduced usage of almost 100 plastic products and cut down 80% on single-use plastic. They also calculate how much water would be needed on board to avoid any wastage.
Additionally, around 40% of the flights in Abu Dhabi are serviced by electric vehicles. The usage of GE’s 360 Foam Wash, the first such initiative by any airline, ensures improved engine performance and reduce fuel consumption.
ETIHAD GREENLINER PROGRAMME
The Etihad Greenliner Programme commenced in 2019. The flagship Greenliner; a bespoke Boeing 787-10 became the world’s first aircraft dedicated to sustainability. Etihad Airways, in collaboration with aviation giants Boeing and GE, trailed new technology to tackle environmental issues.
