Guest Blog: For Dubai’s Future, Expect the ‘Unimaginable’
If you close your eyes and think about the future of Dubai, how far can you see? Can you spot the flying taxis and the world’s tallest Ferris wheel? Can you see into the indoor rainforests and the 3-D printed buildings? A city within the city inspired by the tale of Alladin? There’s a lot to imagine happening in Dubai, especially if you do a mind time-lapse on the last ten years.
Bayut.com’s latest competition was aimed at those with the biggest resource of imagination. We wanted to see what of Dubai’s future can our youngest predict. So, we went to Jumeirah College where five lovely students wrote very different essays on the topic of Dubai’s future.
Here, we present you the winning essay, the one that uses a rare yet very Dubai-appropriate word: UNIMAGINABLE.
How do I see Dubai in the future?
by Atishya Dhawan, student of Jumeirah College, year 7
How would Dubai look like in the future? Well…. This instantly gets me imagining a futuristic city. Currently, Dubai enjoys a prominent place on the world map and it is a leading financial and business hub. Political stability, superior infrastructure, a tax-free environment, and freehold property status contribute in making Dubai an attractive destination… To earn a living and to eventually make it your home!
Dubai is breath-taking, with its science-fiction-like cityscape, with icons like the world tallest skyscraper Burj Khalifa, the Palm Island and the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab, as the gleaming symbols of Dubai’s skyline. According to me, a luxurious city like Dubai would have innovative and unimaginable skyscrapers, which will interconnect each other through sky bridges. These will be connected from the top of a tower to another tower or skyscraper. This will give easy accessibility and it will reduce traffic congestion on roads. I also see Dubai building underground roads and tunnels, to avoid traffic congestion.
I believe, some unimaginable plans are also underway: the Dubai Steps, a stairway ascending 100 meters into the clouds, and the world’s tallest Ferris wheel, Ain Dubai, located at the Bluewaters Island. Dubai’s mind-blowing innovations and unthinkable plans make it a preferred and ultimate destination.
With the launch of Dubai’s Expo 2020, Dubai has announced its Smart City project, with the aim to be one of the world’s most connected and sustainable cities. Dubai has already started to offer better ways of communication; free Wi-Fi zones have been set up in key locations including shopping malls, government buildings, bus stops and even the beach.
I dream of Dubai, with world-class health facilities, provided free of cost, for both its citizens and residents. With highly qualified, educated doctors and nurses, with all medical amenities, most importantly with 5-star facilities for all.
Also, I view Dubai as a city where I would fly my car to work. Which will become a reality in the coming years as Dubai is very soon is set to see its first Flying transport with passenger drones starting as soon as July 2017.
Amazingly, driverless cars are just around the bend, with Careem announcing that they will launch self-driving electric pods in Dubai “within a year”. Can you imagine as not being dependent on anyone to drive you to school or to work?
It has left me spellbound that the UAE leadership has announced their intention to build the first city on Mars over the next century. In the future, I hope to own a substantial piece of land on Mars!
In conclusion, I see my Dubai in the future as an ultramodern city, while preserving its unique culture. The land of abundant opportunities, and a safe, extremely secure place to live in with a multicultural environment and equal opportunities for all nationalities. Isn’t it incredible that so many nationalities have made Dubai their home, and live peacefully together?
In the future, I see Dubai as a role model for everyone!
