The hike will be allowed for some private schools based on their performance in recent inspections. Here is all you need to know about the Dubai school fees increase 2024-25.
UAE announces private school fees hike
The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) cites the current economic situation and operation costs as the reason for the boost.
The increase will depend on whether the schools have maintained their ratings or increased them. Currently, they are set to rise by 5.2% with an Education Cost Index (ECI) of 2.6%.
The inspection result categories are Weak, Acceptable, Good, Very Good and Outstanding. Here is a rundown of how the increase will work out this year for private schools across the emirate, as per current ratings:
- Maintain rating: Up to 2.6%
- Weak to Acceptable or Acceptable to Good: Up to 5.2% | ECI of 2.6%
- Good to Very Good: Up to 4.55% | ECI of 1.75%
- Very Good to Outstanding: Up to 3.9% | ECI of 1.5%
On the other hand, schools that have seen a drop in their annual inspection ratings are not eligible for school fees increase in Dubai. Those who have been rewarded with the privilege must first have all intended fee adjustments approved by the KHDA.
According to Director of Permits at KHDA, Shamma Al Mansouri:
Aligning the fee adjustment with schools’ inspections ratings emphasises the quality offered by schools, while enhancing the competitiveness of the sector and encouraging schools to meet the needs of parents by catering to the needs of a diverse student body to ensure access to high quality education for all children.
About the Education Cost Index (ECI)
The ECI is in charge of managing yearly changes in the costs associated with running schools in the country. This includes annually audited financial statements from private schools in Dubai to utilities, rent and salaries. The decision of the annual increase in tuition fee in Dubai is based on collaborative calculations made by the ECI and Dubai Digital Authority (DDA).
School fees are frozen if a private school’s ECI is less than what it was in previous years.
