All about the Dubai Police Academy
Established in 1987, Dubai Police Academy has played a pivotal role in the imparting security and law related training and education to not just UAE residents but also to those interested in working in law enforcement and related careers in different countries. BRIEF HISTORY
The institute was established via Law No. (1) of 1987. The courses started in September 1987, at the Police Training School of Emergency Department. The basic infrastructure of the College, as it was at the time, was completed in October 1988. Subsequently, Resolution No. (1) of 1988 regarding the Bylaw of Police College were presented and classes were moved to the College Building post inauguration on April 1, 1989.
From the very start in 1989, students from GCC countries including the Yemen Arab Republic and the Palestinian Authority, were admitted to the institute. The first Dubai Police College graduation ceremony was held on October 30th 1991 with students graduating with a bachelor’s degree in laws and police sciences. The bachelor’s degree by the institute was equated with a bachelor’s degree in laws granted by Egyptian universities at the time.
The institute was recognised by Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for work in the field of higher education via the Minister’s Decree No. (51) of 1994. In 1998/99, a postgraduate program in law and police science was established. Plus, a master’s degree in public law and a master’s degree in private law were introduced.
In 2001, the name of the College was changed to Academy. Plus, a master’s degree in criminal science was also added next year. Whereas in 2010, Dubai Police Academy started offering doctoral degree in law and police sciences in public, private and criminal law disciplines. Moreover, in 2012/13, The Academy obtained accreditation of master’s degree program in human rights in English and Arabic.
Since its formation, the Academy has graduated 7,783 students across various disciplines. Among the students, 43% belong to ethnic minority groups. This includes students from Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.

WHAT ARE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS?
Here are some of the requirements for Dubai Police Academy Admission requirements.
- Citizenship of the UAE or a national of the GCC or any other countries as determined by the Board of Directors
- A high school diploma or equivalent certificate approved by the Ministry of Education in the UAE with a percentage of not less than 75%
- Secondary school certificate and/or Academic transcripts
- Military or civilian personnel working in the police or armed forces or one of its related bodies
- Proficiency test certificate: EmSAT, IELTS Academic, TOEFL, or its equivalent. Should have obtained the Emirates Standard English Language Test (EMSAT) at 950 degrees, or the equivalent of 450 TOEFL or IELTS 4.5
- Copy of passport
- Copy of the constraint summary
- A NOC from their employer
- A passport photo
- A copy of the military ID
