Dubai Metro e-scooter ban lifted
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has updated regulations for bringing e-scooters when travelling via Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram to improve your commute. Riding e-scooters inside metro and tram stations was strictly prohibited earlier, but that ban has been lifted. For more e-scooter rules and safety information, visit RTA’s official website.
ALL ABOUT THE DUBAI METRO SCOOTER BAN LIFT
In the past three to four years, the usage of e-scooters in Dubai has increased significantly. The government has limited their use in certain areas and has developed a set of rules to ensure the safety of pedestrians and e-scooter riders.
Many commuters utilise e-scooters daily, riding them to the metro station, folding the scooter and carrying them aboard. This allows them to navigate their journeys to and from the station quickly. Some areas in Dubai aren’t near a metro or tram station. For those residing in these localities, e-scooters offered a cheap mode of transport to reach the nearest station.
However, after some safety concerns, RTA Dubai banned e-scooters on the metro and tram on 1st March 2024. The e-scooter ban inside the Dubai Metro didn’t apply to footbridges. Riders could still fold their e-scooter and carry it across footbridges inside a Dubai Metro station.
The announcement that ‘RTA bans e-scooters on Dubai Metro‘ came soon after a lengthy delay at the Onpassive Metro Station caused by smoke emanating from an electric scooter. The e-scooter ban inside the metro was a swift response to this troubling incident to ensure the safety of passengers.
However, that ban has been lifted in October 2024.
