Dubai Events Round-Up: What’s Happening in Dubai in September
Things are looking up! The hot & humid weather is behind us, our friends are getting back from their holidays and, most importantly, Dubai has got some super-exciting events in store for us. Case in point, the newly-announced Ed Sheeran concert (whoop, whoop!). Bayut brings you a round-up of September events in Dubai that are sure to be worth your time and money.
LA PERLE IN AL HABTOOR CITY
Under the slogan “Every city has a secret… Only Dubai has La Perle’, the long-awaited aqua-spectacle is bound to leave you breathless. Think sixty-five international performers on a one-of-kind stage that uses 2,7 million litres of water! The show is directed by Franco Dragone (Cirque du Soleil and Celine Dion) and is simply unmissable.
When: Runs until December 31st, two shows per night, five days a week.
Tickets start from AED 400,00
FINA SWIMMING WORLD CUP, HAMDAN SPORTS COMPLEX
One can never have too many water-based events in Dubai. The emirate has once more partnered up with the International Federation for Swimming with the two-day part in the FINA Swimming World Cup. The event will take place at the Hamdan Sports Complex giving you the privilege to see some of the world’s finest swimmers compete against each other in world-class facilities.

three operas by Mozart AT DUBAI OPERA
Così fan Tutte, The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni all in one month?! September at Dubai Opera seems to be a love letter to the genius composer. We can’t blame them though – one simply can’t go wrong with Mozart. We implore you though – make sure to head to the venue ahead of time and avoid getting stuck in peak traffic. The number of people who come in late to the Opera is appalling!
When: Così fan Tutte – 8th & 15th September
The Marriage of Figaro – 7th & 14th September
Don Giovanni – 9th and 16th September
Ticket prices start from AED 350,00
CONCERTS all month round
The Opera will also welcome to the stage the Filipino songstress, Lea Salonga – the original Miss Saigon at London’s West End. Also performing this month is the award-winning Russian pianist Alexander Ghindin, the South African star Johnny Clegg as well as Anna Netrebko – the first classical musician to appear in Time magazine’s ‘World’s Top 100 Most Influential People’ list. Prefer gothic metal? Paradise Lost is performing at The Music Room tonight. And if you’re a Bollywood fan, Shafqat Amanat Ali and Rekha Bhardwaj are singing at the World Trade Centre.
When: throughout September
Tickets prices vary. Visit Platinumlist.
GEMS TRILOGY by L.A. DANCE PROJECT AT DUBAI OPERA
Have you ever attended a contemporary dance show? If the answer is ‘no’, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised! For example, a part of L.A. Dance’s Project’s trilogy set to appear in Dubai Opera titled ‘Hearts & Arrows’ was choreographed by the brilliant Benjamin Millepied, ex-soloist at the New York City Ballet. Fun fact: Millepied also had a supporting role in the hit film Black Swan and became the husband of Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman!
When: 28-29th September
Ticket prices start from AED 150,00
We hope we’ve helped you to have an active, sophisticated September! A few more events to consider – Stand-Up Comedy Series at The Laughter Factory (September 7th-15th), Dubai Desert Road Run (23rd September) and Full-Moon Yoga at Fairmont the Palm (9th September).
