The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has established an advanced public transport network in Dubai. You can easily navigate the entire city by using the Dubai Metro, the Dubai Bus service, or any other public transport mode. Today, we look at the RTA Dubai bus service, timings, bus routes, fares, etc.
ABOUT THE DUBAI BUS
The RTA operates more than 1,500 public buses, including metro lines, inter-city routes and fast lines. Dubai bus service serves 17 fully equipped bus stations and over 2,000 bus stops. There are 170 double-decker buses, 935 standard buses, 339 articulated buses and special metro links.
All RTA-approved vehicles are air-conditioned and feature informative screens for displaying bus stop details and general notifications. These buses are fully equipped for People of Determination, with dedicated entrances and wheelchair-accessible spaces. You will also hear audible alerts with corresponding flashing lights signalling when the doors open and close.
Apart from the Dubai Bus, RTA offers the Dubai Bus on Demand service – a pooling service for groups of up to six people
Dubai Bus Station List
The two main Dubai bus stations are Al Ghubaiba and Gold Souq. You can find bus stops and stations across the city, even outside metro stations.
RTA bus routes serve the following stations:
- Abu Hail
- Al Ghubaiba
- Al Sabkha
- Ibn Battuta
- Mall of Emirates
- Gold Souq
- Al Qusais
- Al Rashidiya
- Al Satwa
- Hatta
Many bus stations have NOL top-up machines and facilities like cafeterias and vending machines to facilitate commuters.

HOW TO PLAN YOUR JOURNEY ON A DUBAI BUS?
Step 1: Locate the closest bus stop or bus station with S’hail
The first step is to locate the bus route serving your destination using approved RTA Apps like S’hail. You can also find the RTA bus timings on the app.
#Shail app helps you plan your journey via #PublicBuses in advance to make it easier. You can also track bus locations and routes for easy transportation without delay.#RTA #Dubai
Download it now: https://t.co/Gvy0TtH7td pic.twitter.com/MIelzVlpXO— RTA (@rta_dubai) November 7, 2022
- Open S’hail app on your phone
- Tap ‘Plan’ and enter your starting point and the final destination
- Check all possible route options and details like the journey time and the cost
- Select the preferred route to know where the bus stops are located
Sometimes, the Dubai Metro may be the quickest way to reach your destination. So, evaluate all options before selecting one.
You can even refer to the Dubai Bus Routes List below to plan your journey efficiently.
Step 2: Get your NOL card ready
After locating the stop and the route, the next step is getting yourself a nol card.
Like the Dubai Metro, all RTA buses have nol card scanners at the entrance. When you enter the bus, you must place your card on these scanners to pay the RTA Dubai bus fare.
Nol cards must be valid and have a minimum purse value of AED 7.50. This has been established to ensure passengers do not run out of purse value when travelling by bus.
If you don’t have a nol card or your balance is less than AED 7.50, you will be denied entry on the bus. Remember, a public Dubai bus does not sell nol cards or have a top-up card machine. You must buy/top up your nol cards from any metro station in Dubai.
Some bus stops do have card top-up machines. However, these are only available at select locations. To avoid disappointments, buy or check your nol card balance before travelling by the RTA buses.
If you are a #nol card user, #RTA provides many features through the #nolPay app that enables you to manage your card easily, in addition to filling and checking your balance at any time and from anywhere!
The app is available on App Store, Google Play, or Huawei AppGallery. pic.twitter.com/WT3ZRSz7F5— RTA (@rta_dubai) July 10, 2022
Step 3: Board the bus
Once you’ve got your route set and nol card ready, it’s time to head to the bus stop and board the bus. The RTA has made it easy for the public to identify RTA buses with distinct signage and colours. The regular buses are red and white, while the feeder buses are blue and white. They also feature electronic signage on the bus’s front and back, which displays the bus number and route.
Bus stops in Dubai are also easily identifiable – look out for the RTA signboards or air-conditioned bus stops.
Rules to remember:
- Always stay out of the bus stopping area.
- Always signal the bus to stop.
- Don’t approach the door until the driver opens it, allowing you to board.
- You should always board the bus through the front door and get off from the rear. Women and children can also use the front door to get off the bus.
- Do not argue with the bus driver.
- Avoid playing loud music/audio on the bus.
- Don’t leave the bus until the vehicle comes to a complete halt.
- Heavy luggage, pets, noisy/musical instruments and hazardous objects are prohibited inside the bus.
DUBAI BUS FARES
You can use your Red, Silver, Gold or Personalised nol card for fare payment based on your needs and preferences. Please remember that the ticket price for the Dubai bus depends on your choice of nol card. The Dubai bus fares are also dependent on the zones. The more zones you cross, the higher your resulting bus fare.
Here’s the Dubai bus price breakdown, depending on your crossed zones.
Type of nol Card | Within 1 Zone | 2 Adjacent Zones | More than 2 Zones |
---|---|---|---|
Silver Card | Within 1 Zone AED 3 | 2 Adjacent Zones AED 5 | More than 2 Zones AED 7.5 |
Gold Card | Within 1 Zone AED 6 | 2 Adjacent Zones AED 10 | More than 2 Zones AED 15 |
Personal Card | Within 1 Zone AED 3 | 2 Adjacent Zones AED 5 | More than 2 Zones AED 7.5 |
Red Ticket | Within 1 Zone AED 4 | 2 Adjacent Zones AED 6 | More than 2 Zones AED 8.5 |
