Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) provides basic utilities, i.e., water and electricity, to residential and commercial entities in the emirate. Whether you live in an apartment or a villa in Dubai, you would have a DEWA account in your name. Hence, it is best to be aware of the DEWA disconnection process when moving out of the city or changing homes to avoid financial repercussions.

HOW TO GO ABOUT THE DEWA DISCONNECTION PROCESS
Like other government entities, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has also digitalised its services to make them customer-friendly. Most things can be done online, be it DEWA bill payment, applying for a new DEWA connection, or registering a complaint. Likewise, you can complete the DEWA disconnection process online without visiting a physical office.
Read on to find the answer to “how to disconnect DEWA connection online.”
DEWA DEACTIVATION – ONLINE PROCEDURE
As mentioned earlier, DEWA deactivation can be done online or in person at any DEWA Customer Happiness Centre.
Two options exist for the DEWA disconnection online procedure – with or without login credentials.
ONLINE DEWA DISCONNECTION WITH DEWA USER ID
- Visit the official DEWA website and log in with your DEWA User ID or UAE Pass.
- Select Consumer > Deactivation of Electricity/Water (Move-out).
- Enter the 10-digit DEWA contract account number. Remember only to enter the account number for which the request has to be made (if you have multiple accounts).
- The next step would be to pay the outstanding bill. You can make the final DEWA payment using your credit or debit card.
- After the payment, you will select the moving-out date and input an active contact number so a DEWA representative can contact you if required.
- At this stage, you will also have to choose the payment mode of your DEWA security deposit refund. It could be a bank transfer, cheque or transfer to another active account. You can also opt for “I will apply for the refund later.”
- Submit your application.
- Once this process is complete, a move-out notification number will be issued via email or SMS. You can use this number for future official correspondence.
The supply will be deactivated on the moving-out day, and the final meter reading will be noted.
DEACTIVATION OF ELECTRICITY/WATER WITHOUT LOGIN
If you haven’t registered online or don’t have access to the login details of your DEWA online account, don’t worry. There’s another way!
- Visit the official website and click on the Deactivation of Electricity/Water (move-out).
- You will find an ‘Apply Online (without login)’ tab on the left-hand sidebar.
- Click this and enter your 10-digit DEWA contract account number and 9-digit DEWA premises number. You can find both numbers on your DEWA bill.
- Next, you will receive an OTP or one-time password on your registered mobile number or email.
- Once you have logged in, the process is the same as above, i.e. pay the bill, select the date of moving out, and select the DEWA security deposit refund method.
If your move-out date is in the future, you will have to pay the final bill later. Please note that the final bill will be issued within 24 hours of the selected date and could be covered by the security deposit.
A new bill is issued if the bill is higher than the security deposit amount. Alternatively, if the billed amount is lower than the security deposit, whatever money remains will be returned via a cheque or online transfer.
DEWA ONLINE DISCONNECTION VIA THE APP
If you have an account, you can also apply for disconnection via the DEWA App. The steps for this are the same as those discussed earlier for the official website.
IN-PERSON/OFFLINE DEWA DISCONNECTION PROCESS
You can submit the required form at a DEWA Customer Happiness Centre should you prefer an in-person application. The following details need to be provided:
- Customer Account Number
- Date of disconnection
- UAE Mobile Number
- Emirates ID
Once you have registered your request, you will receive a link to select the refund option and the ‘move out notification number.’ The process of final bill payment and potential security deposit return is the same as stated earlier.

HOW TO TRANSFER YOUR DEWA ACCOUNT
You can transfer your electricity/water DEWA account from your old premises to your new home in Dubai.
- To transfer your account via the online application, visit the official DEWA website and log in with your DEWA User ID or UAE Pass.

- Premise Number of the house you’re moving into.
- Contract account number for your existing house (from which you will move out)
