A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MUSEUM
In the 19th century, the building served as the beachfront residence for Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamad Al Qasimi, the Wali of Kalba and his family. This magnificent structure was built between 1898 and 1901 and showcases traditional Arabian architecture with wind tunnels and open courtyards. The building is located in the Kalba district of Sharjah on the east coast of the Arabian Gulf.
In 1999, the former royal residence was opened as a museum. It houses many valuable Islamic collectables that hold cultural importance.

The building has an expansive courtyard and spacious rooms. It consists of two main sections, separated by a wall. The eastern section of the building includes the main entry point, the Morabba’a, Al Majlis and a special type of privacy curtain with Mazaqhel, a traditional drapery featuring parted holes to preserve the sanctity of the private quarters while allowing residents a peek into what was happening outdoor.
The outer Al Majlis overlooks the Arabian Gulf offering spectacular views of the sea. This part is devoted to visitors and men. The western section of the building includes the residential quarters of the Sheikh’s family.
DISCOVER THE RICH CULTURE AND HISTORY
The museum has several exhibits with pictures, artefacts and pottery from the old days. There is a heritage collection in the museum that consists of the Sheikh Saeed’s room, a space for agriculture and children’s rooms. In one room, there is a wide collection of old pictures and mementoes.
Two rooms are dedicated to metal arts, glass and pottery. There is also a specific area for archaeological findings from the Eastern Region of Sharjah.

HOW TO GET THERE?
Bait Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamad Al Qasimi is situated in Kalba on the east coast, along the Corniche at the end of the park, opposite Al Hisn or the Kalba Fort. If you are coming from Sharjah, take the E88 from Sheikh Rashid Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Street as you are heading towards E11. Continue driving along E88 and take the Sharjah Kalba Road until you reach the E99 which leads to Kalba Corniche.
