The significance of Fujairah Port’s location
Fujairah port is the only maritime facility of the UAE that is located on the Eastern seaboard of the UAE and this exclusive feature adds a lot to its strategic importance. The port shares a location that bridges the shipping routes between east and west.
It also offers quick links to the road networks in all the emirates of the UAE. The distances between the port and the seven emirates are within 110 km to 300 km. Moreover, the port is also connected to other ports of the UAE including those in Dubai, namely the Jebel Ali Port and Mina Rashid Port. These attributes boost international and regional trade through the Port of Fujairah heavily.
Business Activities that take place at the Fujairah Port
There are a number of trade and business activities that are facilitated at the Fujairah Port. The port offers general cargo, bulk cargo, wet bulk cargo and container services. Companies can load and unload containers, import and export a wide variety of products, avail bunkering services and can be supported in a number of other industrial services including refilling ship supplies and ship repairs at the Fujairah Port, UAE.
Facilities at Fujairah Port
With drafts of 15 metres (PD), Fujairah Port has a 1.4 km long main quay. There are two bulk loaders with 600 metre long berths. These bulk loaders for aggregate exports have loading capacities of 2,000 tons per hour and 4,000 tons per hour, respectively.
However, the southern water-break of the Fujairah Por has its general cargo berths, which are 850 metres long. This also has a draft of 15 metres with a travel lift facility for lifting supplies. The facility also caters to associated vessels that need repairing or maintenance.
The Northern Water-break of the port is allocated to Port of Fujairah terminals referred to as Oil Terminal 1 (OT1) and Oil Terminal 2 (OT2). OT1 shares the same draft length of 15 metres (PD) whereas the draft length for OT2 is 18 metres (PD). Moreover, Oil Terminal 1 has a total of 3 berths with a length of 840 metres, while Oil Terminal 2 has 4 berths with a length of 15,000 metres (PD).
The Fujairah seaport is of key importance when it comes to the UAE’s oil export operations. This is not only because of the central location of the port, but also thanks to the facilities provided by the port. With two oil terminals and a direct 370-kilometre pipeline connection to Abu Dhabi oil reserves, the port is primarily involved in oil export. Owned by Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline Co. (ADCOP), the pipeline has 1.5 million barrels per day (BPD) management capacity. It can transfer over 600,000 barrels of oil from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah without hassle.
The port also has an enormous oil storage capacity of 10 million cubic metres. Moreover, the Fujairah Port Authority plans to extend the storage area to make it capable of storing up to 42 million barrels of crude oil to enhance the port’s productivity.
Here, we wrap up our overview of the Fujairah Port. UAE is one of the most operational and gainful regions of the world where shipping and seaports are involved. There are a number of great seaports in Dubai and other UAE emirates. Other ports in the region also offer exceptional facilities to a large number of shipping companies in Dubai and other emirates of the UAE on a daily basis.
Furthermore, trading companies in Dubai also benefit from the port of Fujairah for different business operations. Apart from business-related facilities, some ports in Dubai also offer cruising facilities and Dubai Cruise Terminal at Jebel Ali port is a fine example of this.
