Capital Centre

Capital Centre is a major mixed-use development on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi near Al Gurm. It lies close to Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street. Capital Centre is largely packed with commercial properties, especially hotels. The district is known for housing Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and Capital Gate Tower. The area covers a landmass of 8 million sq. ft. and is home to the famous Capital Gate, also known as the Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi.

Capital Centre was previously occupied by Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre with the rest of the area utilised as parking bays. The area is now a mixed-use development with many hotels, ministries and other commercial properties. It is well-known among business travellers and holidaymakers. Centro Capital Centre is a popular hotel next to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The community is not densely populated and is away from the core city-centric areas of Abu Dhabi.

There are only a few residential properties for rent in Capital Centre because the area is filled with commercial properties. Developments such as ADNEC, Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research are the commercial side of the area. Hospitality options include Capital Centre Arjaan by Rotana, Centro Capital Centre and Aloft Abu Dhabi.

Capital Gate Tower developed by ADNEC group, which is also known as Leaning Tower is famous for its unique construction. It covers 170,000 sq. ft. of space and stands over 160 metres tall. This 35-storey skyscraper is one of the tallest buildings in the city. This tower is also the focal point of the Capital Centre. Capital Gate Tower is recognised by Guinness World Records as “farthest manmade leaning building of the world”.

There are plenty of parking spaces in the Capital Centre. Parking is required for visitors as it is a commercial area; paid parking spaces are located near commercial buildings and hotels.

Capital Centre Abu Dhabi is not close to the city centre which makes it a little less connected with the city in terms of public buses. Bus A1 and 40 can take one to ADNEC/Street 3 bus stop from where it is a 5-minute walk to Capital Centre. Travelling through a private car or taxi is a more convenient option.

Capital Centre may not have a central location, but it has all the basic amenities in proximity including supermarkets, schools and hospitals.

There are two supermarkets in Capital Centre; Carrefour and Zoom. There is a branch of Carrefour supermarkets in Abu Dhabi, a major French supermarket chain from where you can shop for grocery. Zoom is a leading convenience store in the UAE, it also offers home delivery through its online portal.

Other options in the neighbouring area include SPAR Supermarket near Zayed Sports City, Circle K, Spinneys, Carrefour City and Rich & Fresh Supermarket in the residential area of Al Aman. All these are about 8 minutes away from the Capital Centre.

There are churches less than 10 kilometres away. The nearest one is St. Joseph Cathedral in Al Mushrif which is at an 8-minute drive. Around eight churches are dotted in the neighbouring area of Al Mushrif including St. George’s Orthodox Cathedral, New Vision Tamil Church, The Evangelical Church, Abu Dhabi Apostolic Tamil Church, Medihanyalem Church, Philadelphia Church of God, St Andrew’s Church and St. Theresa Church. All these churches in Abu Dhabi are at a 13-minute drive from the Capital Centre.

There is one Hindu temple under construction in Abu Dhabi. For Sikh believers, New Gurudwara is around 15 kilometres away from the area, roughly 15 minutes away by car.

Two mosques are dotted in Capital Center; Abu Hanifa Mosque and Jibril Mosque. Abdul Jalil Mohammed Al Fahim Mosque is at a 5-minute drive, near Zayed Sports City.

There are no schools in Capital Centre, but there are some less than 8km away in neighbouring areas. Towards the west is Al Mushrif where Kids Academy Nursery, Bright Beginning Nursery and Al Manhal International Private School are established.

Al Manhal International Private School follows the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) curriculum for all subjects. American International School is less than 3km away in Al Aman and it follows the American curriculum.

Rabdan Academy is the nearest higher education option accessible at an 8-minute drive.

There is a large hospital in Capital Centre namely, Zayed Military Hospital. It is a 365-bed tertiary care hospital. The staff is comprised of trained professionals from North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. A dental clinic is also present in the district: International Centre for Dental Excellence.

Capital Centre is based on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi near Abu Dhabi International Airport. Embassies District is a next-door neighbour of Capital Centre. Towards its east lies Zayed Sports City while towards the west is Al Gurm. Al Aman is also a neighbouring residential area.

There are some malls and restaurants close to Capital Centre. Residents have to travel for a few kilometres to reach districts where these amenities are located.

Al Seef Village Mall is 11 minutes away from the area. It is a uniquely built mall with a variety of retail, dining and leisure spots. Tucked behind Al Seef Village Mall is The Walk where there are a number of restaurants and salons, which is a part of the open street market.

Mushrif Mall Abu Dhabi is 10 minutes away, and it provides a nice blend of shopping, dining and leisure options. It has three levels and is spread over 56,000 square metres. There is a Lulu Hypermarket, over 200 retail stores and a large food court in the mall.

One can find an array of restaurants in Capital Centre. Towards 33rd Street is Kurkura Restaurant and Fresh & Light Restaurant. Kukura Restaurant is a Japanese eatery while Fresh & Light Restaurant is a fast-food restaurant that serves salads and burgers. Those looking for cafés can find Costa Coffee and Starbucks on the premises towards the Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street.

C Taste, Saffron and Dino’s Bistro Italiano are all fine-dining restaurants located in the Capital Centre hotels.

One advantage of living in the Capital Centre is quick access to the beach as the area is close to the Arabian Gulf. The nearest one is Al Qurm Beach at a 9-minute drive. At an 11-minute drive is Al Bateen Beach. This beach overlooks Hudayriat Island and has been awarded the Blue Flag certification by Emirates Wildlife Authority. The beach stretches over 800 metres and offers picturesque waterfront views. Sports lovers can enjoy volleyball, kayaking and paddling at Al Bateen Beach.

People who like to explore the nightlife of the capital can explore any of the bars that are lined in the hotels of Capital Centre. C. Mondo, The Warehouse Wine and Tapas Bar, Mai Café, XYZ Bar, and Relax @12 are popular options.

Other landmarks of Capital Centre include the many embassies in the neighbouring Embassies District; such as the Embassy of United States, India, Jordan, Pakistan and Morocco.

The nearest park from Capital Centre is Zayed Sports City Public Park which is 8 minutes away. It is a perfect spot for sports enthusiasts where you can find facilities from tennis, football to beach volleyball and basketball. It is one of the best public parks in Abu Dhabi featuring green lawns, shaded areas and dedicated play areas for kids.

Old Airport Park is been around for decades. Khalifa Park is 13 minutes away. It also has a Cultural Library and a Maritime Museum. There is Murjan Splash Park inside Khalifa Park where children can play water games.

Fitness enthusiasts can drive for 3-minutes to reach Lifeline Wellness Gym and The Room in Zayed Sports City.

La Dolce Vita Gents Salon is in the vicinity whereas, ladies have to head out to Zayed Sports City to visit Pause Salon & Spa and Maison De Joelle Salon.
