THE WORLD ISLANDS DUBAI PROJECT UPDATE
Number of Islands in The World Islands
The World development announced by Nakheel in 2003 initially had 200 islands. By 2004, this massive project had expanded to 260 islands and eventually reached a total of 300 islands.
Land Reclamation and Breakwater in The World Islands
The islands were constructed through massive land reclamation efforts, involving millions of tons of sand and rock. The buildup of the two breakwaters was completed in 2008. These structures shelter the islands from sea waves.

The World Islands is about 4 km off the Dubai coast, measuring 9 km in width and 7 km from the south pole to the north pole, covering an area of almost 600 million sq. ft.

Islands in Dubai World Islands
The World Islands has seven sets of islands named after seven continents. The islands, sized 150,000 sq. ft. to 450,000 sq. ft., are about 100 m apart from each other. The majority of the islands are empty, including Antarctic, Australia and New Zealand Island. Ireland Island in Europe and Shanghai Island in Asia were the first islands sold by Nakheel in 2007.
In 2008, Dubai Infinity Holdings announced the development of the one-of-a-kind fashion island by the name of Isla Moda in The World Islands. Fashion designers from all the continents will be invited to design different elements of Isla Moda Island.
In 2009, Nakheel announced Coral Island Resort in the North American region. Royal Island Beach Club in Lebanon Island was the first attraction to open in The World Islands in 2012. It is a private beach club featuring two beaches, along with a swimming pool, an onsite beach volleyball court and a variety of dining hotspots.
Germany Island, Central Europe / Main Europe, Sweden Island, St Petersburg, Switzerland, and The Floating Venice were the six islands in Europe bought by Kleindienst Group to build The Heart of Europe (THOE) project. Divided into three development phases, THOE in The World will be completed in 2026. Côte d’Azur 5 Star Resort, The Floating Seahorse, Sweden Palace, Portofino, Germany Villas and The Floating Lido are a few major developments in THOE.
