The World Islands

Designed in the shape of a global map, The World Islands (also called The World) is one of the most awaited real estate projects in Dubai. Developed by Nakheel Properties, the man-made archipelago features seven island clusters named after the seven continents. It is located around 4 km away from the coastal strip of Jumeirah in Dubai.

This collection of islands, each representing a unique nation, offers a truly cosmopolitan experience with luxurious living, world-class entertainment, and iconic attractions.

The World development announced by Nakheel in 2003 initially had 200 islands. By 2004, this massive project had expanded to 260 islands and eventually reached a total of 300 islands.

The islands were constructed through massive land reclamation efforts, involving millions of tons of sand and rock. The buildup of the two breakwaters was completed in 2008. These structures shelter the islands from sea waves.

The World Islands is about 4 km off the Dubai coast, measuring 9 km in width and 7 km from the south pole to the north pole, covering an area of almost 600 million sq. ft.

Dubai World Security are responsible for providing round-the-clock marine security to Dubai World Islands.

The World Islands has seven sets of islands named after seven continents. The islands, sized 150,000 sq. ft. to 450,000 sq. ft., are about 100 m apart from each other. The majority of the islands are empty, including Antarctic, Australia and New Zealand Island. Ireland Island in Europe and Shanghai Island in Asia were the first islands sold by Nakheel in 2007.

In 2008, Dubai Infinity Holdings announced the development of the one-of-a-kind fashion island by the name of Isla Moda in The World Islands. Fashion designers from all the continents will be invited to design different elements of Isla Moda Island.

In 2009, Nakheel announced Coral Island Resort in the North American region. Royal Island Beach Club in Lebanon Island was the first attraction to open in The World Islands in 2012. It is a private beach club featuring two beaches, along with a swimming pool, an onsite beach volleyball court and a variety of dining hotspots.

Germany Island, Central Europe / Main Europe, Sweden Island, St Petersburg, Switzerland, and The Floating Venice were the six islands in Europe bought by Kleindienst Group to build The Heart of Europe (THOE) project. Divided into three development phases, THOE in The World will be completed in 2026. Côte d’Azur 5 Star Resort, The Floating Seahorse, Sweden Palace, Portofino, Germany Villas and The Floating Lido are a few major developments in THOE.

The World Island features a variety of luxury apartments, standalone grand villas, hotel apartments and residential plots for sale.

Côte d’Azur Monaco Hotel and Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort are the two popular hotels in The World Islands. Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort is the latest Anantara hotel in the UAE, located within the South American region of The World offers a variety of hotel rooms, suites and villas. This hotel provides private beach access from every room. Côte d’Azur Monaco Hotel is a part of The Heart of Europe.

Since The World Islands is currently under development, there is limited transport to and from the islands. Interested individuals can take a 15-minute boat ride from Palm Jumeirah to reach The World. One can also travel across The World Islands by air.

For now, restaurants in The World Islands are part of the hotels like La Brasserie & Raining Street in Côte d’Azur Monaco Hotel. It is a French restaurant. Other restaurants in The World Islands, which are part of the Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort, include:

Helios and Qamar offer Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Indian cuisines, while Luna specialises in serving various beverages and snacks. HamacLand is a private floating lounge where one can enjoy panoramic views of gulf waters while enjoying International cuisines.

The World Islands is surrounded by pristine beaches. Property owners and hotel guests can access private beaches in The World Islands.

The Heart of Europe is one of the most popular landmarks in The World Islands. It is currently under development. Other much-anticipated leisure places in The World are Isla Moda Island and Nakheel’s Coral Island Resort.

For now, one can spend leisure time at Royal Island Beach Club, a private beach club on Lebanon Island.

The World Island is an under-development project by Nakheel that mainly offers staycation facilities. People who want to live in The World Island need to wait a bit as most of the residential communities are currently in the development phase.

The World Islands is currently under development with some completed islands.

Tourists and visitors can visit the developed islands in The World which are open to the public, such as Lebanon Island.

The original idea for The World was conceived by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Al Rashid Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. Nakheel Properties are the developers of Dubai World Islands.
