Bluewaters Island is one of the most impressive man-made islands in Dubai. It is a multi-billion project by Meraas featuring the world’s largest observation wheel, Ain Dubai. Bluewater Island Dubai location is Jumeirah Beach Residence coastline, near Dubai Marina.

Bluewaters Island project was launched back in 2013 and the main contractors were Van Oord, Hyundai Contracting and Starneth Engineering. Approved by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, it is one of the best master-planned residential islands in Dubai offering luxurious waterfront properties.

Bluewaters Island project is all about beachfront living, luxurious properties, resort-like amenities and tourist hotspots. The project was opened to the public in 2018 while handovers for the residential properties started in March 2017. There are 10 mid-rise residential buildings, each having 15 floors above the ground. There are retail stores and F&B outlets on the ground floor of these buildings beside the dedicated retail centre. With luxury amenities and properties on offer, it is one of the most expensive areas to live in Dubai.

Bluewaters master plan includes a Banyan Tree Hotel and Resort. For visitors and tourists, the resort will feature 179 rooms including VIP suites that feature private pools. The hotel will also feature the brand’s signature Banyan Tree Spa.

The island is also home to one of the Address Hotels in Dubai, The Address Beach Resort. Besides the signature luxury amenities of the hotel chain, it has one of the best infinity pools you’d find in Dubai. The pool is set up at the 77th floor and it is officially verified by Guinness World Records™.

Getting around the island seems tricky, but it will be the opposite, thanks to the wide network of roads and transport system. Pedestrians can reach the island using the 265-metre connecting bridge, The Wharf Link, that is linked to the JBR. Moreover, plans for introducing cable cars are underway.

The Wharf Station will serve as a dock for water transport and the monorail that will connect to the Dubai Metro. Those with personal vehicles will have direct access to the Sheikh Zayed Road. Also, there will be 2,000 parking spots arranged across the basement and podium levels of apartment buildings in Blue Water Island.

A driverless train system will soon be operational on the island. This Group Rapid Transit (GRT) system provided by Dutch technology firm, 2getthere will feature 25 vehicles, each will have a capacity of carrying 24 passengers. By following a dedicated route, the passengers will ultimately connect to the Nakheel Harbour and Tower Metro Station. The automatic transport system will have several connecting stations on the island.

GRT will first connect to a transport hub at the first building on Blue Water Island, The Wharf Station. All the taxis and buses will also arrive here first and then connect directly to a tunnel towards the basement. Private vehicles can also access the underground parking area of the residential buildings and retail and hospitality centres. This expansive tunnel extends under the main boulevard and divides the residential area and the retail and entertainment district. The core objective of this project is to minimise the traffic and promote a green, healthy and clean environment.

All taxis, GRT, buses and pedestrians using the bridge arrive at Bluewaters Wharf which is the main precinct at the base of the Ferris wheel. It is a 230,000 sq. m. plaza featuring 164 shops, restaurants, cafes and leisure facilities. Out of these, 132 retail outlets are built below the residential apartment blocks.

The ground floor of residential buildings will feature supermarkets in Blue Water Island Dubai. Meanwhile, some shops and grocery stores nearby include Choithrams Marina and Al Maya Supermarket in Dubai Marina Mall. Both are a 10 to 12-minute drive from the island.

While there are no places of worship on the island yet, there’s a mosque in Dubai Marina around 14 minutes away. Reaching churches in Jebel Ali might also take around 15 minutes or more.

Bluewaters is mainly a staycation and a tourist destination. It also features residential components for those looking to enjoy beach life to the fullest. As of now, there are no schools in Bluewaters Island but one can access The American School of Dubai (ASD) in Al Barsha 1 which offers the US curriculum. It is a 17-minute long drive. Another option would be Arcadia School in District 9, Orchid Street. It follows the National Curriculum of England.

Those who want to pursue higher education can head to The American University in Dubai, which is around 9 minutes away from Dubai Internet City.

Mediclinic Meadows is a general hospital near Bluewaters Island located at a 12-minute drive. It has a dedicated cancer centre and maternity home. The hospital also offers video consultation and medicine delivery from the pharmacy. It is one of the fastest growing clinics in Dubai with branches in many communities.

The island is adjacent to JBR and enjoys proximity to Dubai Marina. The major highway, Sheikh Zayed Road connects residents and visitors to the mainland. Geographically, it can be spotted behind the new City Walk development in the Jumeirah area. It is close to the entertainment hub, The Beach in Jumeirah Beach Residence. If you are driving from the island, it will take around 7 minutes to reach Dubai Marina, the centre of high-life Dubai where you can access The Walk Marina and Dubai Marina Mall in about 12 to 14 minutes. Accessing the emirate’s centre, Downtown Dubai might take around 20 minutes.

Dubai Marina Mall, one of the best shopping malls in Dubai is accessible in 11 minutes via Sheikh Zayed Road. It is a complete shopping and dining complex with entertainment facilities for kids and adults alike. CK, H&M, and Tommy Hilfiger are some of the top brand outlets in Dubai Marina Mall.

Moreover, there is Ibn Battuta Mall at an 11-minute short drive. It also houses brand stores, hypermarkets and restaurants in the dedicated food court. There are a lot of activities offered in Ibn Battuta Mall besides shopping so those coming in with family or friends can spend a nice time together. From Fun City to the bowling alley and family diners to the relaxing spa treatments, there’s some activity to keep everyone busy.

The island will be home to six new restaurants in addition to the beach-front diners and casual eateries. Caesar’s Palace features Hell’s Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay and a casual lounge, Cove Beach. Several restaurants in Blue Water Island are already operational. For breakfast, brunches and a caffeine fix, one can head to The Coffee Club or La Brioche. There are also options for international cuisines in the form of The London Project and Alici.

Private beaches in Dubai have always been a crowd puller, setting the emirate apart from the rest of the world. Likewise, resorts on the man-made, Bluewater Island will have access to private beaches within the community. Cove Beach is a tourist hotspot and popular beach club residents love to visit. A fun entertainment venue, Brass Monkey has gained the attention of visitors. An all-in-one fun spot with restaurants, bars and games is an ideal place for a night out with friends.

Bluewaters is in proximity to the many leisure destinations in Palm Jumeirah, the largest man-made archipelago and a tourist hotspot. Within 10 minutes, one can reach Palm Jumeirah from Blue Water Island and access its family-favourite entertainment spots including Aquaventure Water Park and The Atlantis, The Palm.

Bluewaters is also directly connected to JBR Walk offering a range of recreational activities, retail shops and restaurants. Moreover, a 7 km tree-lined promenade, Dubai Marina Walk is a popular attraction accessible in around 10 minutes by car.

There are splash pads, sprinklers and shaded water courtyards on the island to keep the external spaces cool. Ain Dubai is not yet open to the public. But, it is estimated to be completed soon and become the world’s largest Ferris wheel standing about 210 metres (689 ft.) tall. Upon completion, it will also break the records of High Roller and the London Eye.

This wheel will have a capacity of carrying 1,400 passengers with 8 dogs, 4 cats and a couple of dirt bikes in its 48 glass capsules. Tourists will enjoy the views of Dubai Marina and popular landmarks including Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa. Dubai Eye will also overlook the man-made archipelago, Palm Jumeirah. It will have a base dedicated to the entertainment zone featuring a 260 ft. LED screen for broadcasting tours and advertising. As a mixed-purpose destination, construction on Blue Water Island is underway. Similarly, some phases are to be completed but the project is developing at a fast pace.
